Playhouse Square Center announced the other day that they are expanding the runs of shows booked in their Broadway series from two week to three weeks starting with the 2016-2017 season. This is pretty impressive, as it shows that their audience, and subscriber base, is continuing to grow as opposed to many markets where they are seeing the exact opposite.

It makes me angry that Broadway in Chicago can't pull in that large of a crowd. I hate whenever a show only stays for a week.

It could be that they have 2 major theaters merely 2 blocks from each other in Chicago. With 2 major shows at once. And people can only afford to see one. So the other suffers. Which was the case when Cinderella and Newsies was there. One at the Oriental and the other practically across the street at the Palace. Chicago theater science is different than NYC.

Don't forget about the Bank of America theatre only a few blocks to the north as well.

It should be interesting this winter with Beautiful in town for three months, a long stay for The Lion King, and the out-of-town for Gotta Dance.
