Hey, I LOVE it! (I knew I should have got on here last night so I could have heard them earlier!) Anyway, a few things:
Love the modifications for "Rent." I've always thought that it was the most underrated song in the show, mostly because on the OBCR, you don't hear the as much of the rapid rhythms that create the urgent feeling of the $-less Mark and Roger. Love it, now. Everything sounds more urgent, which is exactly what this piece needed.
Anyone else think that WJH sounds a lot like Daphne Rubin-Vega in "I'll Cover You?" No offense to him, he's great, but he just reminded me of her.
"Without You": Oh! My! God! I love the new stuff in that it gives the more urgent feeling to the song. That was lacking on the OBCR, though it was still a very lovely song. And, having read the
supposed screenplay, another thing added visually to the action during "Without You," along with the new muscial treatment, might just rocket it past "What You Own" and "Out Tonight" for my favorite Rent song.
Can't wait till the 27th, and can't wait till Nov. 23rd. If I may quote Stephen Sondheim, "God, That's Good!"
