"There could be a compromise.. If they are so worried about her, then why not have two persons play the role so Cloris could still do her thing on Broadway, but not 8 shows a week"
That could work. Kinda like they do with the Christines at Phantom and the Frankies at Jersey Boys. Have Cloris do the night shows and the Sunday 3pm and someone else do the matinees.
I think Cloris could pull off 8 shows a week anyway despite age. I think she would knock Mel out cold in about 20 seconds in round 1.
Does anyone have Mel Brook's contact information, so we can give him our "ten cents worth"? from RC in Austin, Texas
Long live Cloris Leachman! I love, love, love her, and if she thinks she can do the role, I bet she can do the role. Anyone ever see her in THE NORTH AVENUE IRREGULARS? She's so funny!

I saw Cloris jogging on the west side of L.A. not that many years ago.
Jogging.
Don't mess with Clo.

earlier this evening, this thread was much longer than it is right now, and actually at the time i logged off appeared poised to turn ugly. (as the result of a post im guessing -- hoping -- was unintentional, but nevertheless was imho patently offensive.) im *guessing* the moderators took down some posts they deemed offensive, but kind of just was wondering what happened while i was gone ...
What mean things were people saying? I had no idea.

well, now, if i repeat them, dont you think the same thing will happen all over again?
let's just say there was what for all the world sounded like a crudely anti-semetic attempt at humor ... i rather suspect the poster's intentions were innocent, but it was hard to read it that way.
but like i said, ive been away for a few hours, so mebbe im completely off base.

Being in a Broadway show is not like being in your high school's $25,000 production of Bye Bye Birdie.
Most youth theater productions have around a $35,000-$50,000 budget.
I'm sure Cloris has more stamina than John Lloyd Young.
My favorite part of the article is about how most actors would "choose" to die on stage if they had their preference.
Amen to that.

Well, now BroadwayWorld says that Andrea Martin has been confirmed to play Frau. Oh well, I'm sure she'll be wonderful.

Someone should make a bunch of Team Leachman shirts for us all so we can go stand in front of Mel's NY office. Heh.
I think she should do the show if she wants to....but I sure don't want to see her in the 2008 Edition of Broadway Bares.
If they DID fight, we would have to organize a huge BWW field tript to the arena.

TapTapTapioca, where do you live?!?! At my school and local community (not even youth!) theatre it's usually minimal sets and DIY costumes. During our most successful show, Anything Goes, we managed to break even . . . with tickets sales totaling $500 (we charge more for a NAME musical).
P.S. Poor Andrea Martin must feel so unloved.
My money is on Frau Blucher
Cue the horses

My middle school did Peter Pan 2 years ago, and Wendy, Michael, John, and Peter all "flew". My school must have a very large budget.
That is so sad about Leachman. She deserves to have that role. I want Cloris! I want Cloris! I want Cloris!
BroadwayEnthusiast2-that should be our rallying cry! I say we gather outside Mel Brooks' office with pickets, pitchforks, etc, chanting "We want Cloris! We want Cloris!"
And torches...
Then his secretary runs in and says to him: "They've gone wild, the BWWers have gone wild!"
Could this show have more drama surrounding it?
Could Megan Mullally be murdered at her curtain call on opening night?
Wow . . . our middle school didn't even have a stage. We performed on the floor of the cafeteria.
Marketing at its best!
