re: why no 'Where's Charley?' recording? Jul 8 2007, 06:38:57 PM
Isn't there enough suffering in the world already without a CD of this score?

Unfortunately.

re: The Season by William Goldman Jul 5 2007, 01:19:31 PM
The immediacy and lunacy of the internet (present company excepted of course) has made this kind of book somewhat redundant.

re: The Season by William Goldman Jul 4 2007, 07:55:14 PM
Still the best. I just wasted money on Broadway Babylon....cut and paste book typing at its worst. But I love The Season.....one of my favorite stories. Two men took their wives to see Judy Garland At Home at the Palace. Afterwards they are standing in the lobby waiting for the ladies. Guy One: I don't know....is it theatre? Guy Two: It's gotta be. Guy One: What do you mean? Guy Two: It sure as hell ain't singin'!

re: Riedel: Lee to Direct STALAG 17 Revival, Owen Stars Jun 27 2007, 02:55:55 PM
Clive Owen. Saw him in London in CLOSER doing the other role than the one he did in the movie. He's great. But it kinda sounds like they're casting a movie. Mark Wahlberg?

Thanks for the pics!! Dramatic and unnecessary? Interesting....same could be said about the show. :)

The issue lies in the definition of 'mainstream' Jun 25 2007, 03:49:39 PM
I think what Gelfling wrote is very true. People are spending SO MUCH money on a ticket now, they don't want to be surprised. They want to know exactly what they are going to get for their money. A revival is like visiting an old friend. A musical based on a popular movie brings a LOT of that movie's goodwill to the theatre with it. And I don't think it's because there are not GOOD new composers out there, I think it's that they are not being produced. When it

re: My Fair Lady - ball scene Jun 24 2007, 10:14:39 PM
The touring version I saw some years back with Richard Chamberlain cut the Ballroom scene...ended Act One with leaving for the ball, and of course "She Did It" at the top of Act Two told what happened. The scene is amusing and can be fun especially for Zoltan Karpathy, and since Eliza was such a failure at Ascot - it is really the ONLY scene where we see her as a success in polite company. I think it's necessary for audience to see it....but there you are.

re: A&E's Breakfast With the Arts no more? Jun 24 2007, 10:07:35 PM
Right Frontrowcentre....I tuned in to see some Tony coverage and nothing. That's also when I knew something was up. The past few months there have been a LOT of country singers and bands featured, but I thought it was a phase. Sad.

re: Cloris Leachman Challenges Mel Brooks to a fight to win role (NO JOKE) Jun 19 2007, 05:21:00 PM
I think she should do the show if she wants to....but I sure don't want to see her in the 2008 Edition of Broadway Bares.

re: Very Brief Thoughts About JOURNEY'S END May 28 2007, 01:41:34 PM
Saw the show yesterday and can't stop thinking about it. A play like this shows how timeless a well written drama can be. Can't say enough about the performances and the productions. No crabby usher for me, either, so maybe the duds were replaced. See the show.

re: Who was the best AIDA? Apr 26 2006, 10:21:28 PM
Saw Paulette Ivory on tour with Jeremy and would have thought she was the best...but by chance I had happened to see her understudy Felicia R. Boswell in the matinee. Felicia got EVERY laugh, we understood EVERY word she spoke and sang, and she and Jeremy had a great chemistry...missing with Paulette whose diction was precise to the point of being difficult to understand. Felicia R. Boswell...

Amen to MORE Lucy. We'd better get away with it, or Ricky and Fred'll be planting their footprints someplace and it won't be Graumann's Chinese!
