Hello everyone,

Before the wolves come out and chase me off to the student boards, I'd like to apologize for posting this here. I know this isn't the proper place for it but, frankly, the student board is kind of dead and while searching past threads on this subject nothing good really came from it. Plus, I didn't just create an account today to ask this question, so...we good? I hope so.

Any-who, onto the point of this—

I'm about to apply to quite a few colleges to be a theatre major with a concentration in directing. Now, while most schools just require a portfolio review as part of your application, a couple of them (NYU, for one) still require you to audition with a monologue. I'm kind of at a loss here. I've literally been scouring the internet, my bookshelf, and my drama teacher's script collection for a solid, contemporary monologue done by a teenage girl character, but so far I've come up short. (Though I have found a million great monologues for male teenage characters...but that's a discussion for another day.)

The only thing I have now is Molly's "When I marry..." monologue from Peter and the Starcatcher, but due to a mixture of her technically being thirteen and the fact she's British, I'd rather not resort to using it.

If anyone has a better idea, I implore you to post it. There aren't many requirements, beyond the fact that:

1.) It has to be contemporary (1900 or later).

2.) It has to be under two minutes long.

3.) It has to be in my age/gender range (I'd say I could pull off ~15-19)

4.) Also, I feel like it may be pertinent to mention that I'm white.

Thanks so much in advance.

Slow Dance on the Killing Ground., Rosie.

Or, if you want dramatic, try one of Agnes' monologues from Agnes of God.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
