gchris11...if you ever get out to Las Vegas you will not want to miss the Neon Museum. http://www.neonmuseum.org/ You need to make an advanced reservation for the organized walking tour of the Boneyard of old Las Vegas neon signs. Absolutely interesting to walk among the giant historical signs of years gone by. The organization also restores and installs them in various places around the city. Highly recommend it.

Not mad or drunk, Wish I was. I am trying to save a dying art form (neon) and memories of business which corps like 7-11 and Amazon are putting out of business. I have the time, the space and Yes, the money to invest in saving the past. One of my first memories of NYC when I was a kid was going to Colony to look for sheet music. I am now in a position to own a piece of Broadway history.

Well I think it's cool that you're able to save the sign and that it won't just end up in a dumpster.

I have got to say, I worked there, managed there, and bought for the store for almost 30 years and I only stayed there because I loved my patrons and I loved putting things on the shelves that people couldn't get anywhere else, but the bosses were horrific!
I was very loyal to them and in the final outcome they were terrible to me as they were with many of the other employees...I was kind of glad to see them go.

This makes me sad. I loved going there when I was in the city and picking up a nice rarity or two. Prices were usually high on a lot of items, but I always felt the rare items were reasonable.

I'm also sad to hear they were terrible to employees and rude to customers. I never experienced any of that.

I always liked hearing people get singing advice from vocal teachers as they browsed sheet music. It was fun to browse their karaoke discs. I've never seen a store with such karaoke selection.

Right. You browsed, you didn't purchase. I think that is the point of this recent exchange of posts. Not to tear down management. We're simply pointing out that no one on here talks about being a regular "customer." Rather, more of a "browser" or "visitor." That does not translate to sales or cash flow.

There's an article in the NYT today about the Brill Building.

"But ghosts do not pay the rent. Neither do fictional characters. Their onetime home, the Brill Building, 1619 Broadway, at West 49th Street, now stands more than half empty, after the closing last year of Colony Records and the Sound One postproduction studio."

Unless it is designated a landmark, The Brill will go the way of most iconic buildings in Times Square. Hopefully they save the bust over the door

Just spoke with one of the owners of the building. I might be getting one of the signs!!!! YAY!!! We are talking next week to see what is needed from each party to make it happen. I just don't want them to end up in a dumpster. They are too cool and Iconic to be trashed.
