I liked the show when I saw it,
but I found the music to be completely boring..
Is it better on the OBC?
I first saw the show in previews w/ Maureen's understudy and was completely underwhelmed with the score and parts of the show itself. I saw it again after it opened and liked it a lot, and then the third time I saw it I loooved it. It just got better and better. The score comes off so much better on the CD! I really recommend it without sounding like a shill!
I really hope it gets a Tony nomination for its score, though it seems impossible, with Piazza, Spelling Bee, The Frogs, DRS, and Spamalot.. It definitely deserves it over the last mentioned
I disagree...Spamalot was definitely memorable. I liked Little Women just fine...but I disagree that Little Women deserves Best Score over Spamalot. While I was entertained by Little Women, I must admit that I found the music to be a but unoriginal.

Colony's not just any retailer and, along with Footlights, always gets Broadway-related releases earlier than other places, apparently with the blessing of the manufacturers, labels, producers etc..... They've ALWAYS gotten stuff early -- it's just up to you whether you want to pay their exhorbitant prices
I agree that SPAMALOT is not memorable, and I actually really enjoyed the LITTLE WOMEN score. I'm glad they seem to have gotten additional musicians for the recording, because it doesn't sound that good in the theatre because the orchestra is so small. I won't be paying Colony's ridiculous prices, but I will definitey get the CD when it comes out.

however at least the in-theatre orchestra has no synthesizers like some other shows... right?
No sythesizers, but it's an orchestra of 12 - that score should have double that. It sounds very tinny and pathetic in the theatre.
Regarding the score again - I would definitely give LITTLE WOMEN the award for best score over DRS and SPAMALOT, but not PIAZZA.

and not bee... personally i think the nominees for score should be piazza, bee, little women and drs.
Are you really fussing about $4?
It's more like $9 or $10, angel face.
Virgin will have it for as little as $12.99, and no more than $14.99. Tower and Best Buy will probably have it for even less so yes - I won't pay Colony's $23 for a single CD when I can get it for nearly $10 cheaper in a week.
I also try to avoid buying sheet music from them because they mark their prices up so much - it's unnecessary.
when i was there in march i noticed how expensive they were...but if i was there i'd buy the cd...I want it NOW....! ARGG
someone put it on LiveWire so i can illegally download it...:)
I'm buying it when it comes out so it's not really illegal
One of Colony Records redeeming qualities is the fact that they have a plethra of cast recordings many do not. Overpriced? Sure. Will they have what you are looking for? Probably. I generally only buy from them when I can not find it anywhere else. You are paying for accessability at Colony, not product. They must be doing something right for being in business over 60(?) years.
yes it is true..i can't imagine NOT finding something there...
I wouldn't suggest buying, say, "Wicked OBCR" there though..
YAY, that means B&N will soon and mine will be on its way!
True Colony's prices are outrageous, but they have next to everything and if you cant find something anywhere else, its worth it to bite the bullet.

Tried calling Colony and they were very well... ANGRY. I guess a lot of people have been calling about this cd.
On my first trip to NYC in 1977 I discovered Colony.
I loved the way they had the Lps organized: Original casts: In print seperated by label and then (more or less) alphabetical. Then all the out-of-print ("Cut-outs") Lps, again by label. They had nearly EVERYTHING: really rare items like SAY DARLING, ALLEGRO, the Ann Southern TV cast of LADY IN THE DARK, and so many others. All priced anywhere from $50 to $250. At the time the regular list price of Lps was $6.98 and discount stores in Manhattan often sold them for $3.99!
But Colony was fun to browse, and even in later years when the Lps were moved to library shelving in the back of the store it was a good way to pass time between a matinee and an evening show. Now the vinyl is gone and the Cd's are in locked cabinets. It's just not the same.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

My sister got a copy at "THE EXCLUSIVE RECORD COMPANY" in Madison, WI. It was quite a bit cheaper than the price people quoted from COLONY RECORDS.
Years ago, I had old albums to sell Colony (pre CD). They wanted to offer me $ .50 cents each record which they could than sell for $ 30 or $ 40. I told them in a nice way, what they could do
I don't care how good a recording is - I won't pay the prices Colony demands for them - they are just robbing people blind over there.
Taking niece to see the show next Sunday... and chance CD will be on sale at the theater by then ?
When I was in Colony on Wed, I was tickled to see the Mary Poppins CD there..but was not about to pay $42 for it!
$42 bucks for mary poppins... that is insane. Colony is too expensive for me, but i do like looking in there. I paid $20.31 for mary poppins thru amazon.co.uk and only waited three days to get it airmail (id rather wait three days and save almost 20 bucks lol). I also preorderd little women on amazon for 13.50.... id rather save the money and wait lol
I also got Mary Poppins from Amazon.co.uk, and was pleasantly surprised when it showed up in three days. It was only around $20 for me with shipping and definitely worth it.
