Although it's just the one song it's still the best song in the show. I have listened to I'm Here on recording at least 120 times but the whole "I'm gonna...." doesn't compare to the one in the commercial from B-Roll. Anyone else agree?
I like the Im Here snippet from the commercial better than the recording.
The cast album leaves a lot to be desired. The fact that they didn't record the act one finale is unforgivable.
I really wish that the album didn't sound so flat. I've said it before on here, but it sounds like they recorded the album in a broom closet. I just wish that it sounded warmer and more open.
Is there a way to petition for a re-recording with Heather Headley? Can Ken Davenport launch that Kickstarter, please?

"What act one finale?
The beautiful moment when Celie finds Nettie's letters and discovers that she's alive. It's beautifully orchestrated, and is on the OBCR.
This revival is such a powerful experience in person it's impossible to capture on any type of recording
I completely agree, ANewBrain—however, Hamilton did an incredibly successful job translating the power of the show onto its cast album. I wish the very same could be done for this indescribable production (ahem... Ms. Headley's vocals, please...
).
Me too, I would also love to get Heather Headley versions of the songs. I think Jennifer is a weak point on the album. I'm glad I got to see Heather in person when I saw the show.
