Color Purple or Sweeney?

Posted: 2/12/06 at 5:13pm

I am going to New York in March, and I want to know if I should see The Color Purple or Sweeney Todd? I can only see one, so which one should it be?

If you like commercial, popular theatre...see Color Purple

If you like abstract, unique concept theatre...see Sweeney

I'd see Sweeney.

They are both expertly staged and have merit in their music, but the overall better show and better production is "Sweeney Todd." Have a great time!

I enjoyed both but Sweeney is genius and a "once in a lifetime" type of thing.

Both are delicious.

They are both a must see.
You can't compare them. They are both works of art.
Felicia P. Fields gives the performance that only legends give.
Patti LuPone gives the performance of a legend.
If you can see both, I would.
It is like comparing apples to oranges. They are both delicious.

Considering that Sweeney is winning the vote, I will add my SWEENEY!!! vote...

But for several reasons.

1. You get to see Blood
2. It's Sondheim
3. It's fun and dark at the same time.
4. You get to see Patti Lupone...a broadway goddess.
5. And who can resist Patti playing the tuba around stage?

Hell, No.

See them both.
Such a tough call. I love Sondheim. He is a genius and the music is gorgeous. The Color Purple really moved me.

For me Sweeney hands down... You also get to see Patti Lupone live on stage... She's WONDERFUL!

Purple or Red....

WOW!
That is a tough thing to have to decide.

I would have to just save pennies or not eat for two weeks to be able to see both of them.

It was like when I went and had a chance to see Wicked or Dirty Rotten...

SEE THEM BOTH.

And if you can't, go with SWEENEY TODD.
