Come Look at the Freaks!

I'm on this Side Show kick today. I know, it's a bit cheesy, but I adore the score and the cast. I think it is one of the few shows that uses modern, pop sounds to great effect. Any thoughts?

Saw it with the original cast and loved it. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I thought it was fantastic. I think the OBC does it a disservice, as it kind of distills the show down to the story of these two women trying to get laid, when it's really about much more.

Any song that those two women sing together is phenomenal on that recording. And the best part is that even the songs they don't sing together are incredible!

Beautiful score. I wish I had seen this on Broadway!

Do you think they would revive it?

A revival any time soon seems unlikely, but it seems like something Encores might tackle eventually.

The show is about finding love and happiness. Just like everyone else. That is why it is the best musicals ever!


I love this show...i saw the OBC video at Licoln Center it was amazing

I love Side Show very much. There is just something so wonderful about the really tight harmonies between Emily Skinner and Alice Ripley. Those two girls seem to do no wrong in my mind. And Jeff McCarthey's voice is just so sublime. Wish I would have had a chance to see it.

It just didn't have widespread appeal. We got our tickets at TKTS after not being able to get them for something else (which I can't remember anymore). A friend was in from out of town and she was like, "Siamese twins? Really?" Honestly, I kind of though the same thing until I saw it. I was surprised at how moving the show turned out to be.

Loved loved loved "Tunnel of Love" onstage.

It is a hard show to sell... it should be like "The greates love story under the carnival tent." opposed to "It's about freaks"

I loved it too - especially Norm Lewis' "You Should Be Loved." He's my favorite performer -- EVERYTHING sounds great in his hands but that's the peak of great Broadway singing to me.

LOVED this show. I was making a trip to NYC (I lived in Seattle at the time) and was planning on what shows to see. I was on fence about Sideshow until I heard Alice and Emily sing on Rosie. (thanks Rosie) That sold it for me, and to this day is still one of my favorite shows. I hope they do it again...maybe even in concert form....or benefit. I'd definitely go.

Hehe, I'll be a bit of dissent!

I've not seen it, but own the soundtrack and worked with Alice Ripley before (awesome, awesome woman!). I like the music; however, not all together. While the songs are good a few at a time, a lot of them (especially the duets, save for "I Will Never Leave You") sound too similiar. You have to admit that several of them "mush" together after a while.

Not hatin', just...sayin'.

Cast Recording, not Soundtrack. No film of Side Show has been made, therefore it has no Soundtrack. :)

I absolutely love the cast recording of the show. Sadly, I did not get to see it during its brief stay on Broadway. I hope there is a professional production of the show sometime, either in DC or NY.

Not quite sure how one can say that the songs sound similiar to one another, but understand that this might not be everyone's favorite show.

I can see how they could sound similar - some of the duets especially. I got to see it -- I thought it was brilliant. Honestly, I don't understand why people made such a big deal about a show about Siamese Twins -- we have shows about cats and phantoms and trains...oh my.

One of my favorite cast recordings.

"Who Will Love Me As I Am" and "You Should Be Loved" are so good.

I actually had this on shuffle/loop on my iPod during a long bus ride home from NYC tonight.
