No offense but THE WIZ is better than Wicked.
I saw it with the Starburst man on Broadway and the movie on Thanksgiving and it is WONDERFUL.
Bring back the Wiz to Broadway.
I want to ease on down the road.
Dream cast:
La Chanze as Dorothy.
Felicia Fields: Glinda
J Holiday: The Wicked Witch of the West (EVILENE- PC)
Who else?
Oprah on Broadway!!! (
)( I would love David Stone to PRODUCE THIS!!!!)
Norm Lewis as the Scarecrow.

I don't mind your choices at all, so I'll add a few:
Lion: Darius de Haas
Tin Man: Chuck Cooper
I have no idea if he can sing, but I'd love to see Savion Glover physically as the Scarecrow.
I would love to see some underrated African American Broadway performers in this like..
the amazing Brenda Braxton, Kyra DaCosta (she is definitely a rising star), and Michelle Robinson (deserves more than being in the CHICAGO ensemble for 9 years.)
There are so many more also!

AMEN!!!!!All I have to say
hehehe!
Ah, Brenda Braxton would be phenominal. I really enjoyed her Velma.
Yes. Brenda has a great Velma! She deserves to be in THE WIZ. Glinda, maybe?
That would work!
The Wiz: Obba Babatunde
OH MY EFFING GOD, I LOVE OBBA BABATUNDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't really know about what actors should play who, but I'd love to see The Wiz on Broadway again.

Last i heard Dodgers still has the rights, but they were soon to expire.SO will see. I would like to see it back.
I loved the OBC. This was the first Broadway show that I saw. I don't agree with La Chanze as Dorothy. I think that she is great but she's a bit too old for that role.
lachanze...maybe a little old for the part of Dorothy...but i would definately love to see her in that part! and of course Anika noni rose in that role as well. Romelda T. Benjamin was aunt em on the tour i believe, would love to see her reprise that role
Love ya, Corine. Would rather see African-American performers be given more opportunities to originate roles, though I kind of like the movie The Wiz.

"lachanze...maybe a little old for the part of Dorothy...but i would definately love to see her in that part!"
Yes, unfortunately that's what some people said about Diana Ross and look what happened there?
La Chanze is very young. Again. Who cares about AGE.
Exactly and Ross was great in the role.
La Chanze would be a great Dorothy.
"La Chanze is very young."
She is well over twice Dorothy's age.
"Who cares about AGE."
In this case, I would.
"Exactly and Ross was great in the role."
I don't know what performance you saw but Miss Ross was AWFUL in the role as was ninety percent of the rest of the movie cast.
"La Chanze would be a great Dorothy."
I love her work but it would be a mistake to cast her.

Well if we're going to talk about the actors in the movie, we should talk about the show itself. It's actually not that great of a show. It's got some catchy tunes, some of which don't really belong in the show, but as a show it doesn't work very well.

No offense but THE WIZ is the best version of the Wizard of Oz.
No offense, that is one of the stupidest things you have ever posted. Especially if you are basing your opinion on the film. That film is a total joke.
"The Wiz" was very nice, but that was in the 70's. The film didn't capture ANY of the essence of the stage musical at all, and to the young lady who started this thread, There is no "Wicked Witch of the West" in "The Wiz", There is "Evilene", Sister of "Evermean".
I'm not too sure if "Thw Wiz" could work again on Broadway right now, It was a show that fit it's era, But I'm not sure the magic can be duplicated again. It had a lot to do with the all black Broadway Show era, Like "Timbuktu!", great show, But simply a great all black send up of "Kismet", However, I must say again, That Eartha Kitt's entrance in "Timbuktu!" was one of the GRANDEST ever! Her performance stopped the show nightly, and royally pissed off Melba Moore at the same time, LOL!
But "The Wiz", now? I wouldn't put money into it, And that goes with knowing full well there IS a revival being planned for 2006. I just don't know if this can work in this era.
I'd prefer to see a short young dynamo of a performer as Dorothy, the way Stephanie Mills was when she was cast ( at 15 years of age I believe). I read somewhere once that Dorothy should appear to be around twelve years old.
~ i dunno.
i'm kind of on the fence on this one.
~ it *could* work with the right execution.
the story after all *is* timeless...
...and to the young lady who started this thread...

I am talking about the broadway version that I saw over 15 years ago. I saw it with Stephanie Mills and I had a great time.
I had so much fun. I watched that film on Thanksgiving and it was so bad it was good. Sort of like In My Life.
I want them to bring the Wiz back to Broadway.
Just don't bring Michael Jackson.
(The dancers in the film were fantastic and I loved EVILENE AND THE MONKEES ON FLYING MOTOR BIKES it made me laugh)
How can anyone not like Nipsy Russell and Richard Pryor)

LOL. I found it amusing too, that they thought Corine was a teeny bopper.
