Hi, I need a short comedic (southern accent) monologue for a female. The audition is for “Red Velvet Cake Wars” and what I’ve found so far has been overdone. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Star Bangled Girl fits the bill. Hard to imagine that it is currently "overdone".
Is it ever okay to use something from a short story (not actually a play)? The first thing that popped to my mind is "Why I Live at the P.O." by Eudora Welty. An excerpt from it might be suitable.
Why I Live at the P.O.
I don't know if it's overdone, but I'm partial to April's monologue about the butterfly from Company. I don't think April has any set background, so it could be a southern accent.
