Company DVD came today!!!!

I'm so excited to finally be holding it in my hands. Sadly there is no insert, but that doesn't really matter I guess. I cant wait to watch it again, as well as the special features.

If you can, please let me know what you think about the special features. I recorded the program, but I would consider buying the DVD if the extras make it worthwile.

I have no idea what's going on with mine. I haven't been notified by PBS either way. I don't understand how they're deciding which ones are shipping now and which ones aren't shipping until May, though.

I got an email and a letter saying mine is not being sent until May. I pre ordered it before the original broadcast....oh well I have to wait a couple of more weeks...it does suck though

I'm rather glad I cancelled my order with PBS.
It's *really* not worth $30+ they're charging... Honestly.
I'd much rather wait it out till May 20.

I got a note saying I'm not gonna be able to enjoy Company again until late May.

I chose not to cancel since it was a gift anyways...

When I left to go to work this morning, I saw a box waiting for me at the front desk of my building. They never put the slip in my mailbox so I could have actually had Bobby over for dinner yesterday. Good lord, stop teasing me, PBS! Ok, that's not their fault but you know...

I love the extras - an interview with John Doyle about his directing career and how he began working with actor/musicians; a funny interview of Steven Sondheim as part of a fund raiser by Kookbura Theater in Australia (were they the ones who massacred COMPANY without understudies?): and an interview with Raul Esparza that was interesting but the substance of which has been covered in other interviews. I have watched the DVD twice now, and I love what Lonny Price did with close ups - he always seems to be catching the reactions I loved - or in some cases missed - in the theater.

I actually thought the special features were kind of a disappointment. The Sondheim interview was really interesting, but there was a lot left out of it. I was hoping there would be more about, you know, Company on it. I always love hearing Raul and Doyle talk about their work, but I was bummed that the interviews were so redundant. I was hoping for some new material that hadn't been covered before, but then again I guess I understand that the questions were probably formulated to be of interest for people who were new to the production and/or Doyle's work. I love the DVD and I'm so grateful that it was taped and released, but I was hoping for more on the special features end.

Orrr multiregion player! I have a multiregion disk for a PS2, a PC that I've set to region 1, and my parents' DVD player will happily play anything. Region coding need not be an obstacle to DVD ownership. And it will certainly not stand in my region 2 way of owning 'Company'!
