Just back from Company
Much to my surprise, it is a first rate revival. Esparza sang the hell out of the part. The set was just right. The entire cast was quite good. A few are not quite the greatest voacally but are adequate. It is head & shoulders over Apple Tree for revival. We shall see how it fares against 110 In The Shade
The staging by Doyle , at least for Company , was fine. I still cannot see every show done this way but it was very good here.
The house was a lot of TDF'ers & the last 2 or 3 rows in the orchestra were empty. We sat row M in the orchestra & saw fine
Go see it

I'm sorry, but I have to say it -- I told you so.
In all seriousness, I'm glad you decided to give it a chance, and even moreso that you ended up enjoying it. From beating the dead horse about how it's not going to work and you'll hold your memories of the original and the days of the full orchestra to telling people to go see it. Look at that.
I still cannot see every show done this way but it was very good here.
Nobody made a rule saying that from here on out, it's going to be done with every show ever, so I don't think you have to worry.
Doyle's a smart guy, and I'm sure he knows what it will and won't work for.

I was wrong & I readily admit it
Very glad we saw it.
I still like full orchestras though but seeing this would not stop me from seeing another staging like this. It would depend on the show

I think that's cool. I love seeing it win over skeptics.
What made you decide to give it a shot?

At first I thought I was gonna open the thread up and get a big "April Fools". I am glad that you actually did enjoy it.
Just a question, who did you think was not as vocally strong? As much as I love the original cast recording, those vocals were far from perfect. I thought the vocal performances in this revival are actually pretty wonderful.
Anyway, I'm glad you liked the show.

The price for one
We saw it on TDF so the price was right. We also stayed last night in the city & wanted to see something today & have seen mostly everything on Broadway so it narrowed down the choices

Posted: 4/1/07 at 7:35pmI just saw the same performance and I have to agree. I was in row BB and wanted to just touch Raul. He was everything I expected.

Posted: 4/1/07 at 8:03pmI'm dying to see Company. Is it usually on half price tickets? Cause it it is, I'll have a better shot at getting half price tickets!

His "Being Alive" was great
Inserting "Marry Me A Little" where they did was a stroke of genius
I got it on TDF but you can get them discounted on Broadway Box
Discount good thru June 3 for $ 65 tops

I saw the original with Dean Jones
Raul has a tad better voice than did Mr Jones. I could see Cuccioli in the role & would love to hear his rendidtion of "Being Alive"r

Posted: 4/1/07 at 8:10pmI bought my ticket from TKTS yesterday at the South Street Seaport and almost had a heart attack when I found out it was BB seat 105. It was $66.00 for a second row seat. That can't be beat.

I think it's on the TKTS board fairly often, but in addition to that, the discounts, and the TDF performances, if you're a student, rush is $36.25 (front row and/or boxes). You can also buy rear mezzanine seats in advance for the same price.
This production choose where to insert Marry Me a Little; it's been used before, but I agree, it's a brilliant moment.

Posted: 4/1/07 at 8:15pmYou mentioned that some people's vocals weren't as strong. Just out of curiosity who did you mean?

Posted: 4/1/07 at 8:16pmNot saying that this is the status quo, but the last time I rushed there was no checking of the IDs. I wondered then if they had switched the policy to general rush. It might just have been an off day, though.
