...I just want a buddy icon. Can we have those, please?

I'll be in my corner...

It's really easy to make buddy icons. I have a Company one. I just chose a picture and cropped it. AIM basically does the work for you. re: Company publicity - what can they improve?

yep, i agree, it was great publicity at that one point in time but it was fleeting. so obviously that wasn't enough to keep the show in the public eye.

i loved the ny times article that looked at the sexual politics of "company" (in addition to "spring awakening"). and this article isn't even linked on their official website. i feel like this article represents the show a heck of a lot better than its own website.

just my two cents.

"“Company” understands marriage in pragmatic terms, as an arrangement between people who will share love and contempt, friendship and enmity, sweaters and spoons and cigarettes. What would have felt sobering to audiences in the early years of the Me Decade feels comfortingly therapeutic now in an age when television talk-show careers have been built around the idea that marriage is a compromise. Light-years before “Dr. Phil,” “Company” lushly told us that compromise is not half bad."

It is a marketing person's job to take a hard stand and say "this is what I think most people would like". Under that banner, pretending we've become Company's publicists, it seems fair to make conclusive statements. Allowing for difference and opinion is, of course, implicit.

I would probably also argue that Raul's physical appearance alone would not inspire the majority. That seems a pretty fair objective statement to me, based on way too many societal references to drudge up in a message board debate. My point earlier was that I think he's attractive enough to reach the fringe-conventional status that appeals to a majority. If only they'd utilized a better visual representation. I think he looks better in stills from the show than he does in the photoshot used for the advertising. I mean, good for him and all, but it should be the other way around.

Aww. But, seriously, the website should be better. Good websites don't get new customers, but I'd venture a guess that they do quite a bit to encourage repeat visitors. If you still can't figure out getting a Buddy Icon after Em's instructions, PM me whatever picture you want and I'll make you one. It's really easy. Updated On: 4/3/07 at 02:53 AM

I toyed with it and decided to stay with my Sweeney one for now. Mine kept coming out too small to see/too big to work. I'll place it in the hands of the website people to make two or three prefect ones.

Wouldn't it be awesome if Company could legitimately be saved by 15 minutes worth of photoshopping?

they *could* be making better use of their website.
audio samples, links to reviews (theres only 3 & one of em's dead), interviews, wallpaper, icons
heck, even just production photos!

& they should ***DEFINITLEY*** be linking to Kristin Huffman's BWW columns!!!

Absolutely. Websites don't do much for general ticket sales, but cultivating an online following is important for the care and feeding of internet fangirls. Also, it comes cheap.

It's probably easy to argue that Company doesn't necessarily skew towards those suspceptible to that kind of marketing, but online fan communities are awfully off-beat these days.

The annoying thing about the website is that it's something that they could've been working on all along without expending that much effort. I don't understand why it's been so neglected. Obviously, revamping it this late in the game wouldn't do much, but it's just... not good presentation. Aside from the few press quotes, it doesn't give any indication of what the show is like.

Aw, those are cute, Craww.

You know what surprises me about the website? There are a few review clips on the opening page, and they didn't use anything from the Times one! You'd think they'd want a rave from the Times to be one of the first things people see.

The fact remains that baboons could do a better job publicizing this show than whoever is in charge of it now.
