#50re: Congratulations to Pal Joey
Posted: 1/8/09 at 11:32amThere was a recording of the 1952 Broadway revival. Because of contract issues, it was the 1952 cast LESS Vivienne Segal and Harold Lang, whose roles were sung by Jane Froman and Dick Kallman (???? -- not sure if he's the one, but someone of that ilk). It's worth having because there's more of the score and it captures Elaine Stritch and Helen Gallagher. A similar thing happened with Call Me Madam: Merman was signed with Decca at the time and did a recording of the main numbers, including songs she didn't actually sing in the show. At the same time, there was a cast recording with the full original cast, with Merman's numbers being sung by Dinah Shore. But, come on, what's a Merman show if you don't have Merman?
