re: Constantine Maroulis to be Judas in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR

I know Anthony D'Amato, the musical director. Can't wait for this!
"He found something that he wanted, had always wanted and always would want— not to be admired, as he had feared; not to be loved, as he had made himself believe; but to be necessary to people, to be indispensable." -F. Scott Fitzgerald's This Side of Paradise

This will be the Premier Theatre Company's production of the Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice musical at the Henderson Theater in Lincroft, NJ.

I actually respect that he's doing this.
He's played Jesus, Judas and Mark in various productions before Idol.

From article:
"Just as miraculous is Constantine Maroulis' ascent from Mark to Jesus. He's a second year student at Boston Conservatory, and he is yin to Judas' yang. His Jesus is other-worldly and naive, a true lamb of god...which makes the crucifixion unbearably hard to watch, and gives the spirituality of the show an unexpected boost. This "Superstar" blazes. Don't miss it."

He's the right age now and Judas is a more challenging role vocally and interesting character.

I met him after a Brel performance and he was lovely.
He tends to treat people as they treat him. Actually with some of the obnoxious fan behavior I witnessed, he treated some people better than they deserved.

I saw him sing Heaven on Their Minds at an After Party at the Laurie Beechman Theater on 42nd St a while back and he was good. He said it was his favorite score. I'm looking forward to this show.
Jekyll & Hyde back on Broadway! / Rock of Ages - 5 Tony nominations! Awesome!

Oh, I know he has played Jesus before, I was just thinking he might step into the role again at some point with this.

Thank you for the link, starlight4 re: Constantine Maroulis to be Judas in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR

When I met him after WEDDING SINGER, he was fun and kind. He seemed very glad to be there.

re: Constantine Maroulis to be Judas in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR

I saw 3 performances of my favorite musical review, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris when Constantine was in the cast last year, and after each show, he took the time to talk with each person who wanted to meet him. He actually is a bit shy and he was really sick at the time as well but still stayed for pictures and conversation with everyone. From what I saw, he was very nice to all.
My biggest disappointment was that Robert Cuccioli ran out the door every night, unlike Gay Marshall and Constantine.

I wonder what kind of off-camera conversation Constantine had with Andrew Lloyd Webber when he in interviewed him recently?

The director appears to be taking on a more organic approach to this production.

From article:

"Ocean Township resident Mark Fleming, who established the Premier Theater Company in 1986, said Maroulis’ name was presented to him by another actor who auditioned in New York for the play.

“He is very passionate about this play,” Fleming said of Maroulis who will play the part of Judas. . . .

. . . . Fleming said his production will not be a “glammed up” version, which has been presented in recent years.

“We’re not going glamour, like the movie,” he said. “People give it their own interpretation.”
