Im just hoping that all the buzz going around inside the circle of Tony voters is true. :)
I truly believe DRS will walk away the winner.
As much as personally believe that DRS is the best new musical of the season, what is the logic behind believing it will win, Bee has the reviews and Spamalot has the monetary sucess. Is it just that many think Spam and Bee will split the votes? I'd love to hear the convincing arument for DRS, I can't see it.

"I will be shocked, not to mention dissapointed, if Spelling Bee wins."
Agreed.
Why on earth would you be dissapointed if Bee won?
Thinking back on it, this would be a great year for a tie between two shows. If two shows tied, they would be Bee and Spam, without a doubt but it would be nice to see it be either Bee and DRS or Bee and Piazza.

so what i think is going to happen is:
musical-spam
book-bee
score-piazza
i hope that anyone would take the musical win from spam (bee, piazza, drs... even little women!)
i can understand the argument too that spam and bee might split the votes because there will probably be some "battles" for who get the most votes... in that case i see drs winning because i think they'll only give piazza score and actress (and probably some design categories..). unfortunately, if that doesn't occur, drs will likely go unrewarded (except actor) in which case i will be so sad for david yazbek, not because i think he deserves to win, but after what happened to him in 2001 and how i think that drs is a really great musical comedy..
*end rant*
I think Bee has a pretty good shot at score as well since most critics really didnt like Piazza's score very much. I'd like to see it take Score, Book, and Featured Actor. I'd be content with that if voters MUST vote for Spam for musical.
Because not everybody likes it? Personally, I'd be kind of disappointed as well.
Take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I saw a VERY early preview off-Broadway, but I don't get the big deal with Bee.
Em, that's the first time I've heard anything negative said about Bee, from anyone.
It's not really negative. I had a good time and laughed a lot, but I just wasn't floored. I liked it, but I wasn't raving. I don't get what the big deal is. Maybe it was just too campy for me... I don't know.

yeah, i'd love finn to get another tony for best score too! but unfortunately i don't think it will happen because the book so outshines the score... but, they will have their cd to send out to voters, whereas i don't know if piazza's cd will be ready... that might hurt the show, don't you think?

em, you should go again and see what you think now..
I still wanna see Bee, and I am seeing Spamalot soon, but...
I still think DRS deserves it. Yazbek has the most unfortunate timing ever.
I know. I want to see stuff I haven't seen first. I can't get myself to want to be rushing back to it so quickly.
Agreed. The show is one of the best of the season and without a doubt, one of the best on Broadway right now. Its wonderful.

Well, Ga, get ready for the second.
A show with a score as weak as Bee's does not deserve to win Best Musical. As much as I love the idea of the little show that could winning...again, the first time I saw Avenue Q, I liked it more than I liked Spelling Bee when I saw it for the first time, and I still like Q after seeing it more times than anyone should, while I saw Bee for the second time last night and was pretty underwhelmed.
I think it has a lot of heart, but I don't think a show with that score should be winning Best Musical. It's just my opinion and I'm sure to back up Bee someone will criticize Q's score, but since it's my opinion, I'll just back it up by saying that there are only 2 or 3 songs in Bee that I really like, while I like pretty much all of Q's score.
You know, I didn't really think Q deserved the score Tony, but that's simply because I bow down to Boy George, pun intended. The difference between Q and Bee, and where I agree with andy, is that after Q, I was singing those songs for days. After Bee, I couldn't remember more than a few lines here and there.
Oh, I agree that it doesn't really deserve the Best Musical Tony (DRS does, and I've got serious money that it will). There's just nothing to "not like". Yeah, the score is weak, but it's cute.
I think the score is very strong. The I Love You Song is wonderfully written. I agree that the book eclipses the score but that doesnt mean the score isnt good. I think its very good. IMO, its much better than DRS and Spam together.
From what I've heard of Bee - the music sounds exactly how you described it -
The Best Musical Tony should not be decided based on "well, I didn't NOT like it," but "well, that was AMAZING"
YOU ARE A SHILL.
You said it yourself...
I know a producer of LW - but I'm not whoring it.
I can't tell if you like it or are just whoring it around.

Yes, the I Love You song is nice...that's one of the 2 or 3 I was referring to.
I like Marcy Parks' song, too.
...I think that's about it.
EDIT: "IMO, its much better than DRS and Spam together."
You're entitled to your opinion, but I think that's a gross exaggeration.
I have yet to hear Piazza's music so I cant judge here but just from what the critics have said, it doesnt seem that Piazza really has the best score of the year. Dont freak out, people, I'll say it again: Im just saying what Ive observed.
And Thenardier-wait, whos a shill-whore?

Barring a major change in the general buzz or some kind of bizarre vote split between the other shows, I just don't see Dirty Rotten Scoundrels winning Best Musical. It got about the same level of reviews as Spamalot- mixed to positive- but without the latter show's huge buzz, instant name recognition, and box office clout. As far as I can see, this race is between Spelling Bee and Spamalot, but I could be wrong.
