Big fan here. To those who saw him play this role before, what would you say his chances are at getting a Tony nomination? He's the first person that comes to mind when I think of a true triple threat working on Broadway right now.
It's September. No one knows anything. A majority of this season's musicals did not start performances yet.
There's a chance he'll be up against Peter Gallagher, Michael Cerveris (assuming he stays with Fun Home), Ken Watanabe, Rob McClure, Tony Danza,..
Based on the performance I saw him give in this last summer at Barrington Stage...sure, why not?
I'm not all that familiar with On the Town. Would you say Tony's role is a Leading role or could you see them putting him in the supporting category cause all 3 sailors are pretty much equal?

There's also Michael Esper and Jeremy Jordan (if he ends up staying with 'Finding Neverland'). Though maybe Tony Danza could win a Tony...

Oh crap I forgot about Jeremy! nevermind.
I think if On the Town stays open he has a shot. Also, between Rob McClure and Tony Danza, who would they put in lead? (Assuming they separate them for strategic purposes.) There is also the possibility that Matthew Morrison replaces Jeremy Jordan (PLEASE!!!).
Mathew Morrison is such a dull actor. I hope Jeremy stays.
See, I'd say the same about Jeremy Jordan. (I don't love either one but it seems they've watered the role down to matinee idol status. Neither one of these actors has Johnny Depp's charisma-or darkness.)

Sure he could, and so could anyone else.
At this juncture, my Uncle Schmuel has as good a chance as almost anyone else.
If Jeremy Jordan stays with Neverland he has a very strong chance of being nominated. He got amazing reviews. I thought that he was absolutely phenomenal!!
Will Swenson could also be nominated if Bull Durham comes this season. Also I think there are male leads in the last ship and an American in Paris too, but I'm not to familiar with those shows
Or Josh Young depending on how 'Amazing Grace' does in Chicago...
What will we see Uncle Schmuel appearing in this season? I love his work.
He's in negotiations for a biomusical about Woody Allen, using Jolson songs.
Tony Yazbek has a good as chance as being a nominee. It's possible that he could win, but way too premature at this point.
Though I think at this point on paper, I'd give it to Ken Watanabe, pretty much because I can already tell he's gonna be perfect as The King of Siam!

^ Well, I guess we're done then. Thanks, everyone.
I'm not sure if producers are super concerned about splitting their leading actors into different categories all the time; if the show is a hit both can land nominations in leading (See: BOOK OF MORMON, KINKY BOOTS, GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE).
Just cause South Pacific was great doesn't mean King and I will be.
I'm just saying that on paper, it's my vote at this point. We'll just have to wait and see the other possible competition...

I got u. It would be such a freakin awesome race if Jeremy went up against Ken and Tony. And then Jeremy and tony should do a tap dance number....shirtless...holding hands...
