Best show on B'way??? You've got to be joking!

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

My personal opinion.. I hated the revival of Wonderful Town, and when Brooke Shields join it made it a million times worse.

Oh, I thought this was a thread about the WT Curtain Call, which wastoo long and overdone, especially when most of the people in the theatre wanted to leave as soon as possible and erase the show and Shield's performance from their memory.

Priest you really didn't like Brooke Shields? I thought she was great, though I didn't have anything to compare her too.

What is Broadway? A street? Some say it's a street. Some say it is the best street in the world. Others think its terrible. That's the beauty of it, it's terribly beautiful. Some hate it and don't know why. Others love it and don't know why. That's what makes it so wonderful, it's a mystery.

I came in expecting great things from her based on what I had heard, but from her very first entrance and on I was completely dissappointed.

And I wanted so bad to like her. But she just doesn't give a good performance and has the prescence of a gnat.

I really wasn't impressed with the show. I didn't like it. I'm certainly not going to miss it. It means it's opening up a theatre for another show, hopefully a better one.

Hahah. I actually would like to hear Ms. Shields sing not in character(assuming that the nasally, obnoxious sound was characterizing her voice). I really am pretty easy to please, or just not very versed in what is really good or not theatre. I think I would make a bad critic.

lol... I think I would be, too. But I KNOW what sounds horrible. And that's her. lol. She sucks, or at least her -cough- CHARACTER -cough- does. If that's how she characterizes... like you said. lol.

Sheilds is not suppose to belt, because the role dosen't call for a "good" singer. Hello? Roz Russell anyone? If you heard the original songs with Roz, you would be suprised, she sings it like Brooke does now. Donna wasn't suppose to sing it like she did, but since she is an amazing singer, she thought she would change it up a bit.

Anyway, I'm glad Priest isn't a critic. Because he is the only one I really heard so negative about Brooke. The critics were raving, the fans are mostly raving. Understand they aren't raving over her singing, but her performance, they loved her acting & she is a passable dancer. Updated On: 12/31/04 at 02:22 PM

I'll give her the dancing.
Her dancing surprised me.

And I know that Ruth doesn't have to be a terrific voclaist, but she should at least be a passable singer.

As for her acting, it was stiff and many of her lines got lost from her speaking so softly.

I really wanted to like her and tried to up until '100 Easy ways to Lose a Man', but then it all went downhill.

I'm not surprised by this at all, but I am sad still. I've seen the show many times with all three of the "Ruths" and enjoyed it every time that I saw it. It had to close to let in Charity which I hope does well. I think of it as a chance for me to see the cast move on to different projects and see them do other characters.

I'm not that suprised it closed, but I was really suprised how Brooke made it last longer. I think without her it would have closed a while ago.

I totally agree Priest. I found her to be rather unenjoyable. However, I Loved the rest of the cast (especially Greg Edelman and Jennifer Hope Wills). re: Curtain Closing on 'Wonderful Town' -

I just felt that Shields weighed down the rest of the cast and kept Wills and Edelman from giving great performances.
