They said that they would start recording it on March 26. Does anyone have an idea of when it'll be out? I'm going to see the show April 11 in NYC and wanted to get the recording.
Probably May sometime.

Too bad the days of recording a show on the first Sunday after the opening night and having it be in the stores on the following Thursday are long gone. Isn't technology wonderul?

TOM, I was thinking that very thing the other day. There is a certain tradition that has been lost hasn't there. It's sad.
It's not the technology that's at fault. It's a corporate problem: they now need time to prepare marketing materials and place ads. Labels got burned years ago placing ads for cast albums that never happened when the shows flopped. AS we all know in the case of Lestat, a cast album can sometimes be made but sit on teh shelf for years waiting to be edited, mixed and released.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

But it's the technology that permits Sondheim to tinker for months and months
I think the cast recordings of the late 40s and 50s OBCs sounded better because the performers were still "up" from the opening. But I also recall being disappointed when the revival recording of MUSIC IN THE AIR was in the Playbill and never quite came out as advertised. I'm not aware that there's a helluva lot of promotion going on these days for cast recordings. It was always a thrill when the producers invested in a full-page ad in The NY Times. Nowadays, it's miracle if the recording gets out while the show is still running, thus losing whatever promotional value the recording might have had.
Angel (EMI) is releasing the CURTAINS OBCR.
At least they generally keep to their release schedule, although I don't think they have done anything since COLOUR PURPLE came out last year.

Elphaba43, you wouldn't want to buy the CD at the theatre anyway. They rip you off.

I'd say charging $25 for a cd that will top out at $18.99 is a rip off.
I am looking forward to this one
Mrs R wanted to have it before we see it 5/8 but thems the breaks

For clarity Original Cast Recordings are not done in theatres during a performance but are recorded in a studio session .
it makes them more of a soundtrack
I can't wait to get this!
I know... and any cast album that is recorded live in the theatre is usually a poor performance on records. The cast need to give very different performances in the recording studio to make the performance work for the ears alone.
But they are still not "soundtracks."

How about we just call them CDs and make everyone's life easier? The whole cast recording/soundtrack arguement is getting old.
We'll have no infighting less than 48 hours before opening, people!
June 5th? GAH. All I've heard is the stuff from the newly posted preview video and I want more!!!
