When I first saw the headline on Broadway.com I thought "Is is April first?"
But, now that I think about it, I can think of worse people... And as odd as I think it is, I'd definitely go.
And this explains why she went the other night--my friend saw her there!
The last time I saw her was on TV in "Life With Mikey" with Nathan Lane and Michael J. Fox. Was she the one who sang "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"?

yep! But don't you think that by the time she were to even sign a contract the show would be closing.
Yep! That is the girl, Millie. She also sang "True Colors."
Cyndi Lauper? On Broadway? Broadway is getting desperate, but in all truth, this is the last hope Wonderful Town has to stay afloat; to put in a famous actress that will draw lots of people to the theater.
She isn't so much a famous actress as a famous singer.
I don't know why there are so many naysayers about this. She has a great voice, and she has won two Emmys for her comedic acting. We're not talking about Melanie Griffith here.

I think Cyndi would be great in the role. I only have a problem with celebrity casting when they choose someone who doesn't have the musical or acting ability to do the role. Cyndi, I think, does have the needed talent. I just hope she is able to sign her contract before Wonderful Town closes. It appears to be on its last legs right now. Updated On: 8/7/04 at 12:30 PM
I say (in the words of Sandra Bernhard (who would also be a fun choice in this role)), "WHY NOT?" :)
Cyndi is a really underrated actress and singer (check out her belting "I Drove All Night")....yes, it's stunt casting, but so was Reba in "Annie Get Your Gun". I'm optimistic about this!!

The reason that I question it is that the part of Ruth is a really ballsy role. I could see Cyndi doing the Witch in "Into The Woods" and many other roles. But I just don't see her pulling off the spiritedness of Ruth Sherwood.
I think Cyndi Lauper is one of the last people you have to worry about not having the "ballsiness" for ANY role.
From what I understand after talking to cast members of the show is that if she signs, the show will stay open awhile longer. The principals' contracts are up at the end of October, but they don't know if the show will go that far. Oh and the Brooke Sheilds rumor was about her replacing Jennifer as Eileen.
Re: Emcee's in Cabaret; I don't really understand why the producers thought Jon Secada might bring in a large audience.
