Am I the only person who thinks this might not be a great idea?
I mean, okay, she can be funny, but her voice doesn't scream "ruth sherwood."
it would definitely bring me back to see the show. I think she could be pretty darn good.

i'm still pulling for bebe neuworth in this role personally
I just saw Cyndi Lauper in concert and she was phenomenal !!! The girl can belt !!! I had no desire to see "Wonderful Town",but put Ms.Lauper in it and I'd pay double the ticket price to see it !!!

The role of Ruth isn't a belting role, though... much more an acting/comedienne role. The acting chops have to be strong. Is Cyndi up to it?
I have no idea....
I saw her open up for Cher in concert, and she was on a Broadway concert on Broadway doing "There's No Business like showe Business". I think she's perfect for the role. She could pull of a little bit of the comedianne voice, and her vocal chops are wonderful, of course. I really think she's be wonderful.
Karen's not a ticket-seller. Cyndi will be - and I think she'll be great! And we'll be able to add her to our list of Broadway performers who don't need mics.
I'm pretty excited about this. She can tone down her heavy NY accent when she wants to. Her vocals would be incredible. She's a fine actress and she's incredibly funny.
Going next week to see Cyndi in concert for the 3rd time this year. Would love to see her on Broadway!
Cyndi would, no doubt, be amazing in this role. It's too bad that they can't just have Linda Mugleston replace Donna. She should know the role well enough by now.
Zoran, see note about Karen Ziemba, above.
I realize that she is not a name. I still wish that a "name" wasn't necessary for a show to sell tickets.
Preaching to the choir, zoran.
hmmmm cyndi lauper on broadway??? Interesting. I can see her in the role, just not voice wise.
Sure, why not? I can think of much worse....start naming the men who played the Emcee towards the end of the Cabaret run!
Rathnait - Too true. I do hate me some stunt casting.
