She is ridiculous! I am watching her tv concert right now, and her voice doesn't stop!! She's belting out high G's and A's like they were C's. She amazing! I can't wait to see her as Jenny!
She is ridiculous. She's like Patti LaBelle in the fact that she can just bust out these ridiculously high notes with such ease.
she has one of the most stunning voices anywhere anytime anyplace. That she hasn't been on Broadway sooner is a mystery!
Maybe if she is a big hit in THREEPENNY - they can get her to replace LuPone in Sweeney.
I'd really like to see her as Lovett. I believe Sondheim did like what he saw when she auditioned for the role - but the role was already promised to LuPone.

Where can I see this concert?
Chita, that is Yvan Cournoyer. He is truely beautiful. That pic had to be cropped for obvious reasons..
I'm gonna PM you some links..
Is the concert you were watching the Soundstage concert or the 2004 Town Hall "Live...At Last" concert?
Regardless, that woman has an insane voice. I watch her do
"Money Changes Everything" in awe. Same with "Sisters of Avalon".
her "Live At Last" dvd is one of the best concert performances captured on DVD that I've ever experienced, I never get tired of watching it. That woman is simply amazing!

I had a VERY close experience with her belt voice.During a concert in Baltimore in 2004 she performed half of Money Changes Everything right in fromt of me.She was literally 2 feet in fromt of me (Singing from the fifth row, I was in the sixth). She has an absolutely phenominal voice.I am going to see The Threepenny Opera in May and can't wait to see her again (even if I won't get that close).
Anyone who hasn't should find Cyndi's song "I'm Gonna Be Strong." I don't know vocal notes, but the one she hits at the end just makes me nutty. I love it. Cyndi is amazing.
yeah that note at the end of "I'm Gonna Be Strong" (it's on her greatest hits cd "twelve deadly cyns") gives me chills everytime. Just like the notes she hits in "I Drove All Night"
"I'm Gonna Be Strong" is a new favorite "cyn" of mine , if you will. She's one of those few singers who can hit those notes with ease without it interfering with the mood/overall vibe of the song.
Have you guys seen the old video for I’m Gonna Be Strong? Cyndi hits that final, thrilling note with this completely demented look on her face, busts out with a big cheesy grin, then lowers her head dramatically as the song ends. It’s hysterical (and just so…Cyndi).

When she opened for Cher in Atlanta she had to perform in a wheel chair and wheeled around and belted the crapp out of songs at the same time. She is amazing and a true performer.
I know she's still fabulous now, but if anyone here ever heard her first album when she was about 17, called Bllue Ångel, well, you just won't believe the belting, no one else compares.
Jane, I think “I’m Gonna Be Strong” is actually from the album Cyndi did when she was with Blue Angel (by the way, your avatar cracks me up every time I see it).
When she opened for Cher in Atlanta she had to perform in a wheel chair…
Cyndi was very pregnant when she opened for Tina Turner back in the late nineties, and it didn’t stop her at all from rockin’ out.
EDITED TO ADD: She may have actually re-recorded IGBS for her greatest hits album, though (not sure about that).

I rediscovered Cyndi when she opened for Cher. I saw her three times with Cher. The third time I didn't give a rat's ass about Cher. Cyndi gives one of the most amazing concerts I have been to. The day after the first concert I bought 12 Deadly Cyns. It took the third time listening to "Sally's Pigeons" before I realized what the song was about. Such beautiful lyrics and a song that I think EVERY American should listen to right about now.
I would LOVE to see the "I'm gonna Be Strong" video! I wonder if there is anywhere to see it?
ETA: Downloading "I'm Gonna Be Strong" and "Sally's Pigeons" videos from iTunes now. The latter is one of the most beautiful videos I have ever seen. Sad how popular radio ignored her best years.
JerseyGirl, I just watched the sample clip on iTunes, and I think that video for IGBS is one she did for the greatest hits version of the song (which apparently is a re-recording). There was an older version (I’m assuming from the Blue Angel days) that used to pop up on VH1 once every blue moon. She looks gorgeous in the iTunes clip (and I didn’t even realize there was a video for Sally’s Pigeons).
There is no better live performer than Cyndi. I've loved her sine "She's So Unusual" and have seen her in concert more times than I can remember over the years. Her brilliance always wows me. It’s just amazing how strong her voice has remained.
I'm coming to NY in two weeks just to see her!
Yes "I'm Gonna Be Strong" is an old Blue Angel live favorite but Cyndi re-recorded it for "Twelve Deadly Cyns...and Then Some". She lost her voice in the early 70s and I think she's one of the few who recovered from the vocal recovery surgery enough in that time to continue with a career...if you listen to her voice from demos then to her BLUE ANGEL demos then it's obvious something happened. Thank god she is still singing and is still an amazing talent. She's one of the few performers who still emits SO much emotion from whatever song she is singing...definitely one of the most underrated performers of the decade.
And all those videos are available on the "Twelve Deadly Cyns" video.
NCGuy, thanks, I also think that photo is funny. I'm not ready to change it yet because I still get a kick out of it! As for the Blue Angel album, the whole thing is practically Cyndi Belting it out to beat the band. I'm so glad I have it!
