This is cute. I don't really like commercials that don't feature clips from the show but obviously there isn't any footage from the show yet so this will do. I'm excited.

I was going to say this was silly/childish and pointless--but decided not to.
PS....Dames is an old fav.-wonderful memories of the LP !

SweetLips - this is Dames at Sea. It's not Hamlet. Silly/childish/pointless video is perfect advertisement for this fun show. Of course, if they did something like this for a Hamlet, it would be a Hamlet I'd definitely think about seeing.

I do not think this ad is going to sell tickets. That said, I don't think any ad is going to sell a significant amount of tickets, though I wish them well.

^ What kind of ad were you expecting to see? It fits the show - cute and bubbly. I think they did great with it. Also, predicting the death of a show so early on is so pessimistic.

I like the other ad that spoofs the Busby Berkely kaleidoscopic choreography, which is more in line with the show I suppose.

I hate[dislike] that fake cuteness and 'aren't I being funny' amateur musical mindset shown here and yes ,I know and understand the period and style of Dames but this wouldn't make me buy a ticket-or even be curious.
Wait till you have some real footage to promote the show.

The purpose of spending buckets of money on an ad is to sell tickets to people who would not buy one anyway, not to tickle those who are already into the show.

I saw this earlier today. Not at all familiar with Dames at Sea. Is the show as relentlessly chirpy as this off-putting spot?

The show is kind of "relentlessly chirpy" but in a satirical way and that doesn't really come across well in the commercial. I think that's part of the problem I have with this. Their previous spot got the satire aspect across better and probably cost a lot less than this one did.

The wigs and costumes (in the video) are terrible and wrong.
The point of the show is to look small and simple not clean and bright. And it is much more than a silly, chirpy show. It is a satire of a certain genre, done on a small budget and you would never know that from this.

This Broadway production isn't going to be as small scale as past productions as far as I can tell. Still a small cast but not as small of a physical production and I think more than just the two piano arrangement of the original.
