I read a while back a movie remake of DAMN YANKEES was in the works, but haven't heard much since then. Anyone know what's going on with this, and while we're on the subject, any thoughts/ideas about who should play the leads? It's probably pointless to suggest Victor Garber, Jarod Emmick, and Bebe Neuwirth, cuz we know that'll never happen...who else do you see in those roles?

Damn Yankees isn't exactly one of my favs. But i think i'd like to see Hunter Foster in there somewhere maybe as Applegate.

Hunter is too young for Applegate...I think Victor Garber would be the only person from the Broadway company. They would find some young hot actor for joe hardy, and (not that i want this) but a nicole kidman type for Lola...I personly think Bebe was too old for the role back in 94 when it opened. add 10 year...she could be MEG.

Bebe was somewhere in the vicinity of 36 when the revival was done. If you think that's too old to play the devil's seductress for hire you're either 14 years old, you need to get laid or you're an asexual human being who has no idea what female sexuality is all about.

I have no intrest in female sexuality. ALSO I had no idea she was 36 then. But my point still stands, that she would be too old for the movie done today. I am not 14 years old either.

Thanks

I would love to see Kevin Kline as Applegate. As for Lola, I think Toni Collette would be perfect, but Hollywood would probably not consider her sexy enough. Megan Mullaly would be hysterical, but again, I don't think Hollywood would go for it. Nicole Kidman is the obvious choice, but I just don't think she'd come across as anything other than Nicole. Joe Hardy is tough to cast. The 50s All-American boy look is definitely not in these days and it's hard to picture any current heartthrobs in the role. And forget finding one that could sing. He'll have to be dubbed. The only person I can think of is Josh Duhamel.

Tom Cruise? Seriously? Bleh; I'll pass. Though I guess without a star the movie might not get made at all.

Peter Gallagher as Applegate. Those eyebrows would be perfect!

I would love to see Tom Cruise shock the hell out of everyone and do a musical, and do it WELL. His participation would pretty much ensure the film got made. And it would certainly be interesting casting if Nicole played Lola....

Okay, I should stay open-minded. Even if I don't really care for him, I've never heard him sing. He might be good, right? Okay. This is me being open-minded.

Yeah. Tom's gonna play opposite Nicole. That's gonna happen.

Last I heard, they have quite the friendly, amicable relationship. Ya never know...
Would that qualify as "stunt casting"?

If CZJ could play ANY other leading lady in a movie musical, I think Lola would be it! Hunter Foster would actually be a great Joe Hardy, unfortunately he's not really a name outside of Broadway.

she'll be like nathan lane tho playing a second of bebe neuwerth's old roles (albiet both in revivals) (referring of course to nathan's habit of playing zero mostel's old parts)

Anyone remember the rumor about Vin Diesel starring in the remake of Guys and Dolls, set in modern New York? Yeah, that made me want to puke a little.

My dream cast for the Damn Yankees movie....Patrick Wilson, Jane Krakowski, and Nathan Lane. I don't think Nicole Kidman is enough of a showstopper to play Lola. I'd kill to see Megan Mullaly, but I agree that H'wood probably wouldn't go for it.

Though I give mad props to Tom Cruise for wanting to do it.

Hugh Jackman could be fun, too.

i think vicotr garber will be brought in from the original cast, especially if disney has any say in it- he has a mainstream name for himself on alias as well as showing up in all of the abc movie musicals. I could see Patrick Wilson as joe hardy (he's got a golden globe nom for angels in america, and i'm half expecting an oscar nom for phantom).

Hate to break this to you, jonartdesigns, but Wilson's reviews for Phantom of the Opera were mixed at best. I really don't see an Oscar nom in store for him this year.

My choices:

Lola - Jenna Elfman or Jane Krakowski
Applegate - Jason Alexander
Meg Boyd - Cloris Leachman (VERY nice singing voice)

Oh, it's no big deal. I was just regurgitating what I read from various reviews, so we're pretty much even. :)
