Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Is A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum Ancient Greece or Rome?

Spider-Man (no, really.)
Forum is Rome.
Trails, sorta.
Written in a farcical vein as "...Forum," the delightful OB musical from 1985 "Olympus on My Mind" (based on Shakespeare's 'Comedy of Errors'), obviously not Greek myth, but employs ancient Greek conceit.
Yea, Spiderman does fit the categoty! Haha. But I'm not sure what it will be, but when I find out I will post. Updated On: 4/30/11 at 06:47 PM
My Fair Lady was actually the first thing that came to mind for me.

Are you sure it's not Forum? That would be the most popular choice.

Egghumor - OLYMPUS ON MY MIND is not based on Comedy of Errors. It is based on the Amphitryon myth, which is Greek. Jupiter comes down to Earth and poses as the war hero General Amphitryon so he can make love to Amphitryon's wife, Alcmene. She becomes pregnant, and eventually gives birth to Hercules, who is a demi-god.
Cole Porter's OUT OF THIS WORLD is also based on Amphitryon. it was re-set in modern day, with the general rewritten as a mob boss.

Except that Forum is inspired by the plays of Plautus, an ancient Roman playwright. I would think that the musical's setting of the city of Rome would exclude it from the list of musicals having to do with Greece or Greek mythology.

Xanadu, with all it's gay jokes and musical theatre references seems like an odd choice for a school.

i can see Xanadu done to the nubbin in the school circuit.
i already know 3 schools doing it next year. and a youth theatre group too.
the greek mythology , the humor,..it works.
it much lighter fanfare than a high school attempting RENT.
