The Jay Records web site has posted that the DESSA ROSE cast recording will be released in November. Yay! Just in time for holiday shopping.

Sounds good! The score is nice, not great. The serious downfall of this show was the book. But "12 Children" is very powerful, I felt.

FYI, for you Midwesterners out there, I just found out "Dessa Rose" is having its midwest premiere at Apple Tree Theatre in suburban Chicago in December.

There were a few good songs, but in general (And I am a huge Ahrens and Flaherty fan) the whole thing made me want to nap. That book, ugh. And I thought half of the numbers did nothing for the plot or characters. Great opening number (as always) and great act 1 closer, but I thought most of it needed to be thrown out.

I agree it wasn't their best work, but the cast was fabulous and I generally loved it!! I saw it when I took a week trip to New York City. I loved the book - the actually book in print I mean. But Rachel York and Lachanze are AMAZING!!! Can't wait for The Color Purple!

I just adored this show in every sense of the word. "at the glen", "12 children" and "we are desended" are unbelieveably powerful as is the rest of the score. I can not wait for this recording to come out! Rachel+ LaChanze= perfection!

Why is this recording so expensive. It's listed as a 1 disc set, but these are def. 2 disc prices.
