I saw Dreamgirls last night and it was AWSOME!!! Jennifer Holliday did better than the BET Awards and how she used 2 sing. It was really diffrent from the movie they had more songs (of course). Well if you have not seen it GET A TICKET!!!
Here is the only official FULL recording of the entire show as performed on stage (yes, the 2006 film-version isn't a true representation of the stage-version, as the stage-version is mostly sung-thru and the film is not).
This was a one-night-only concert staging of DREAMGIRLS done for the 2001 Actor's Fund in New York City and features a roster of Broadway lumanaries, most who never got to perform in the show (they were too young), so this was a dream for them.

I'm going tonight and I can't wait!
How was the physical production? Like the sets and things?
And I really want to get that recording, but it's so freakin' expensive.

Believe me....it's worth every penny. You do realize that it's 2 cds? It contains tons and tons of music that are not on the original cast recording.
If it's just like the 2002 production they did (yes, same theatre, same city), then you'll be seeing the original set design and original costume design. Yes, it will be a reduced version of the original Broadway design, but you'll have the light towers (hand moved this time).
Note, the end of Act 1 has been modified for this Atlanta version -- this time she's centerstage (with Deena Jones & The Dreams BEHIND her via a platform and scrim), therefore Effie now demands the stage as the curtain comes down. In the original Broadway production, Effie (sitting at her dressing room table) is pulled back as Deena Jones & The Dreams come on stage -- therefore Effie doesn't have the stage as the curtain falls. The film-version played homage to this original finale' as Deena and the girls take over the screen never giving Effie her final note to herself.

I think The Dreams taking over is more suited for the dramatic moment. It's as if their lives go on and she's left screaming in the background. The other way is fine I guess.

Oh, yeah. I know it's 2-Cds, I've been meaning to get it for awhile now, I just never got around to it, plus, I didn't want to be spoiled by knowing the show beforehand. It's more exciting when I don't know how certain songs go, ya know?
Oh that's right....you're seeing it tonight. Be sure to report back after you've seen it! Enjoy.

I really wanted to see this show, since I have never seen it. I can't go now because I live far away from Atlanta. What did it look like? How where all the other leads besides Holliday? I do have the 2001 CD and it's worth every penny. It has the full show (including diolouge).
