TFM without a doubt.
There's just more...substance.
IMO one of the greatest musicals...it's in my top 10

Oh, ap, re YazbEK doing first wives club -
The thing that is so great about Yazbek is that he writes for guys. Both shows are led by a male cast, with the occasional woman...(Jeanette and Vicki in TFM and Muriel and Christine in DRS).
It'd be a shame for him to start writing for girls

you know, that's what i thought of... but i'd love to see him do it... otherwise i think jeanine tesori could try to tackle it.

I love both. But I think the Full Monty was such a strong piece. And I went in very critical because the movie is near and dear to my heart. He truly worked wonders with that show and I think it's brilliance.

DRS
The Full Monty just wasn't as witty and diverse as DRS.

I didn't say I didn't like DRS - au contraire, Molière!
But I think TFM has a perfect balance of wit and charm.

The Fully Monty.
I liked DRS as a comedy, but it doesn't have the heart and sheer wit that MONTY had.

Wow, coincedentally I just saw TFM today(only saw it once when it was on broadway, I was younger and not quite as into/obsessed w/ bway as I am now so I'm glad I got to experience it again).
I mean in my opinion it's DRS no doubt, but I don't know if I can say much more than that, DRS is one of my fav shows, I have the cast recording and have seen it many times and while there is/was a lot of TFM I appreciated...I don't think there's much I would say that would live up to DRS in my head the way I am w/ it. I certainly think both pieces are strong and funny and BSo you're dead on about Yazbek writing for male characters, and not Curly-types ppl we're think we're in love characters, which is a rarity on Broadway these days.
Also I think Yazbek's score is more vital to DRS than it is to the Full Monty, there's not that much left in DRS when the songs are taken out, but TFM I think there were many aspects told appropriately not through song.
Not to say I didn't really like the songs, gotta say I loved the friends song they sang to Malcolm. Also noticed there were sweeter songs here than in DRS--in DRS, Love Sneaks In is a standout song as the more touching noncomedic, where in Monty there were really touching moments between Dave and Harold and wives told in song, which isn't to say one is better than the other, just something I thought of as I watched Monty today.
Eh, I can see either opinion being justified. I really like Yazbek's bway scores and I really can't wait for the next one.

Plus, the music in THE FULL MONTY is just all around better.

so on that note what do we think his next score will be?
i think he would be a great choice for shrek too. and that would have him writing for men... shrek, farquad, donkey...
actually, norbert as shrek, lithgow as farquad (reprising) and jbara as donkey and scott as fiona and we have a full drs reunion!
alright, jbara as donkey wouldn't work, but a boy can dream..

I wish he'd do something original, but I doubt it.

wow, i couldn't really deal with that. i know, i wonder how he would do with something original... but he definitely is comfortable with the transfer shows, and has managed to do two really REALLY well...

I am scared about Shrek. There's no doubt the music will be splendid...but the lyrics. He write very obscene and crude lyrice...and they've been getting worse (and by worse, I mean funnier and more crude). He'd have to revert back to a time before TFM to get away with Shrek - cause you know it will be marketed to children and parents of all ages...
