Does anyone know if Encores is using the original or revised version of the book for their summer performances?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm throwing out a related question. What are the major differences between the two scripts? Is the revised one more politically correct?

My high school did an illegal production this year (our director was an idiot. I know.) where we used basically... the movie script. So we did... neither version.

The movie script IS the original version. And what was politically incorrect about that version?

In the new version the jokes are much funnier and a lot of the joke have been changed. It's tighter and faster and more "sitcommy" (not the bad sense).

What school is this?

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

The original had book problems. (The day after they opened they revised it, cutting 20 minutes including the song "Not Meg!")

The revival does a better job of establishing the relationship between Joe and Meg, but also changes the second act considerably to beef up Applegate's role in Joe's trial. It also (incrediby) gives "Two Lost Souls" as a duet to Applegate and Lola (rather than Joe and Lola which makes much more sense.)

Not that it changes anthing but in the original AFTER Applegate turns Joe back into an old man he stilll catches a pop fly ball winning the game for the Senators. In the revival Joe demands that Applegate turn him back when he is up at bat and then hits a home run to win the game.

The 1994 Broadway revival made "Two Lost Souls" a duet between Lola and Applegate to showcase both star leads of the revival: Bebe Neuwirth and Victor Garber. This also applied to anyone playing those roles later -- the 'star' playing Applegate had his duet with the show's 'Lola' (whoever THAT was).

I wonder if Hayes and Krakowski will be sharing "Two Lost Souls," I'd love for Krakowski to sing a duet with Cheyenne Jackson instead (I was jonesing for it when she was supposed to do XANADU so I've been wanting this for a while).

I'm almost positive that they're using the original version, so I would hope "Two Lost Souls" will rightfully be sung by Jackson and Krakowski.

I didn't mean to imply that the original was politically incorrect. I just remember seeing an interview with Jason Alexander when he was directing a production in LA where he said they had to change some lines in their script because it didn't make sense for African American characters to be saying some of the lines. I just assumed they were racially insensitive lines or something.

And I agree that Two Lost Souls should be between Jackson and Krakowski.

Do people generally like the Original or the revival version better? I think the original is... fun, but a lot of the jokes are really dated.
