re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

August: Osage County is in the Canon in November...unless you've heard otherwise.

re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

You are right, and Legally Blonde loads in a day or two after August loads out. Check the IA touring site.

re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

What do you mean as in IA touring site. Where is the link?

re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

The last week of Anne of Green Gables (May 26-31) has been cancelled, and I hear there will be a replacement show coming in.

re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

I'm really surprised we are in Mid-May, and still no announcement on the new season...I am so disappointed! Has anyone heard anything at all?

re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

I think we'll be hearing something (if only the replacement show for the third week of Anne) on the news tonight.

re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

I actually called Dancap today to order a pair of $25 JB tickets, and they told me there were no announcements at all coming any time soon...boo

re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

What a horribly depressing article.

re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

Knelman says the Elgin is "too small"? In what sense? Backstage? It's a decent sized house that's never been full at any of the Dancap shows I've been to. I'd rather see shows there than at the Sony Centre any day.

re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

It's really too bad about Legally Blonde and 101 Dalmatians being (quietly) canceled. More should have been done to bring Legally Blonde to Toronto than any of the less-than-stellar productions in Dancap's season.
#39

re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

Well it does look like Legally Blonde is doing a couple weeks at the Canon in November.
#40

re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

So... Mirvish picked it up after Dancap dropped it? Because according to the article in the Star, Legally Blonde had been booked by Dancap.
#41

re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

Don't hold your breath. Mirvish hasn't announced anything, and if they had it don't you think it would be on their subscription? It's a hot new show and it would be stupid no t to put it on subscription. Maybe the reason LB's on the IA yellowcard sheet is that DanCap posted it back when they thought they had the Canon in the bag.
#42

re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

That seems more likely... I haven't heard anything about Legally Blond, and a two week stop wouldn't make any sense for Mirvish, as it takes 6 weeks to put all 40,000 subscribers through. It's too big a show to not sell as subscription.
#43

re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

The Legally Blonde tour website now has other cities slated for the 2 weeks in question (among many other changes) so it looks like it's not happening.
#44

re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

With dancap cancelling Legally Blonde and 101 Dalmations, Dancap will probably have a 3-show season again. Maybe they will get two touring shows when theatres are available, and then after Jersey Boys closes, put up a sit-down show. Possibly, In the Heights.
#45

re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

Source? ...or is this complete speculation?
#46

re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

Dancap wants to buy the Sony Center on Front St. from the city to set up shop. It would be so funny if Mirvish bought that venue as well. Dancap might have to build his own theatre he is running out of options. These 3 show seasons are not enuff shows to sign up for a Subscription also Mirvish 7 shows package is way to many shows for a Season. 5 or 6 shows is what i would prefer.

I'm wondering if/when we are going to have an update??
Has anyone heard anything?

re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

Dancap has The Toxic Avenger Musical at the Danforth Music Hall - October 31 - January 3. I saw it - felt like a 80% chance of Hilariousness followed by a 90% chance of being offended and ckosed with a 100% chance of loving every minute of it. I actually didn't want it to end...

Edgy but not tooooo far to scare off the parents. Only 100 minutes - no intermission.

Great show - never dull. Perfect for school trips (the kids fall over for the goo and gross jokes while the teachers are laughing at the ridiculous satire (especially after the garbage strike) - and it can easily be written off as educational (always good to appease the parents).* (*sorry former educator in me).

Good break for Dancap!
And (*leak alert*) - SOUTH PACIFIC next summer - I hear.
If anything could make use of the amazing space at the Four Seasons other then Opera- SP Broadway styles.

Anyone know when the pre sale is happening? If it really is the broadway cast for a month at the FOUR SEASONS!!!! - tickets are going to be extinct by christmas.

I would subscribe just for that - All the announced Dancap shows are hits or at least new blood - The Mirvish season stinks like wet cardboard (flimsy, tired, worn out and supported by dirty 80's hair metal (seriously!??! come on) - they cant even keep that fiddler up on the damn roof!

re: Dancap 2009 / 2010

It isn't the Broadway cast. It's the touring cast, which is currently starring Carmen Cusack (Ensign Nellie Forbush) and Rod Gilfry (Emile de Becque).
