Claudia Cardinale was pretty light next to the rest of the cast but not as anglo white as Kidman. Cardinale is Italian and has dark features. Kidman does not even remotely look Italian nor does she have dark features. Every other actress I've seen play this role fit the bill. She doesn't look the part. She's wrong for the role and the casting is completely off for this film. I don't know what they're thinking but I'm completely put off by it. I've been waiting for this show to be filmed for over 25 years and this is the best casting they can come up with? If only Zeta Jones hadn't pulled out. I won't be going to see this. I prefer retaining the memory of the legendary original and it's very satisfying revival.
I think for DDL's body of work he wouldn't choose a part that didn't challenge him and force him to deliver an amazing performance. It will be an interesting film to see but I think Rob Marshall and co. will pull it off.
They might pull it off, but the casting choices (from Lewis to Kidman to Dench as LaFleur) merit all the doubts and quibbles we have.
Kidman is so wrong for Claudia. I'm just glad about Penelope Cruz (even if she's in the wrong role) and Marion Cotillard.

They did say they were going to adjust some of the characters to fit the actresses cast. So maybe Claudia is going to be an Australian woman?
Haven't we been through this with Sweeney and Chicago? Can't really come to a conclusion until we see it.
Take a look at his Oscar Acceptance speech last year on YouTube: he could definitely pull off 40, don't you think?
Absolutely. Frankly, I hadn't realized that he's past 50 at all until reading it. He looks great for his age, and pulling off 40 (especially a stressed-out 40) shouldn't be much of a problem.
I like Day-Lewis for the role. I think he'll at the very least deliver an interesting performance. I'm not terribly worried about the singing aspect simply because Guido isn't the most vocally taxing role, so unless he's completely tone-deaf or something, he should be fine. Kidman I'm not quite as thrilled about because she, as with Zeta-Jones, seems old for Claudia. But she does have that ethereal quality that's required, so maybe it will work.
On the whole, I like this casting. The movie will be made or broken on stylistic and storytelling elements, though, so we'll see. I think it's great that it's being made at all.

I'm a little excited...especially about DDL. I like Marion Cotillard too. Hopefully the movie goes well.
