I caught his debut last night! One of the other threads mentioned that for whatever reason Laura Benanti WAS going on that Tuesday, and TodayTix had reasonable tickets so I was able to catch this performance.

Danny brought a lot of joy to the role, and I expect he'll continue to fill it out as his run progresses. He had some great physical humor (particularly when he goes to Higgins' home) and I found his final scene with Eliza quite touching. My one gripe would be that during some of With a Little Bit of Luck his singing was a little... quiet? Not sure what the deal was, for me he was at times drowned out a bit by the ensemble; I know every word to that song and found myself unsure at some points what he was singing. Maybe just needed the mic turned up? Crowd loved him, and Get Me to the Church in particular got quite the positive response from the audience.

Christian Dante White's debut as Freddy was especially well received. You could practically feel ears ****up and see eyes widen as he progressed through Street Where You Live, and his ovation during the bows was  (deservedly) rapturous.

Laura Benanti sounded great and played the hell out of the part. Was particularly impressed given that she might still be a bit under the weather- she would sneak in a cough or a sniffle whenever she was upstage or momentarily not the focal point.

In all, I'd say the production is in excellent health and well worth a visit!

Laura Michelle Kelly would be perfect in this role.

I was told that Laura extended her contract until Danny leaves.

I also thought he could have been louder in Little Bit Of Luck and I had some problems understanding his lyrics.
