Very sad news. RIP. Times has a note this morning about the tribute concert at Carnegie Hall and said "It's a good time to be David Bowie," noting his birthday, new album and Lazarus... ironic.

I actually saw David Bowie in THE ELEPHANT MAN way back when. He was quite good. May he rest in peace.

So will there be a cast recording for LAZARUS the show at New York Theater Workshop?

"I'm shocked...he wasn't even very old. I'm legitimately so sad."
I believe he had heart attack in 2004, did not know he had cancer. He was 69, think he recently had a birthday.

Anyone here going to Lazarus tonight? I'd love to hear the response from tonight.

So sad to hear of Bowie's passing.
Hope this is not an inappropriate question - Does anyone know how closely he was working on "Lazarus" and how this will impact the future development of the show?

I hope this doesn't sound insensitive, but I think it actually INCREASES the likelihood of Lazarus having a future life.
i don't know how involved he was, but I imagine any future changes would be book-focused. And the score is mostly jukebox.

And what a fitting lyric: "the stars look very different today." I saw people weeping at work. This is so sad.

Heartbroken. His music will live on forever.
Anyone think Lazarus could replace Allegiance? Would really love to see it.

Very sad. Saw him in San Francisco in the 70's. Best concert I've ever seen. One of the true pioneers who taught us that rock can be true theater

Did you ever see the movie THE PRESTIGE ?
He had a fairly small role but his interpretation of the Nikola Tesla character was memorable.

"Ground Control to Major Tom Commencing countdown, engines on Check ignition and may God's love be with you.'
Vatican quoted that but Imma gonna use it here too.

What a huge loss. His music had a big impact on me all through high school and college. He will be missed.

For me, the thing about Bowie was the incredible versatility of his talent. In the David Bowie exhibit that toured here in Toronto a few years ago there were samples of all of his work, the lyrics, the music. The fashion sense of his costume choices ( all of which he'd kept) and set design.. I knew he had studied art and design but until you saw the work curated for you that way, only then did the scope and depth of the man began to come through. I especially remember the oil paintings he'd done in Berlin. He appreciated all art forms- I remember the Sound + Vision tour- He had the Canadian dance troupe La La La Human Steps as guest artists. At one point in their performance, I could see him crouched down in the wings watching w incredible concentration. The best description of him as an artist would be a true Renaissance man. He really could do it all. Respect.
( PS no I am not forgetting his indulgences in illegal pharmaceuticals but he paid the price and expiated that sin)

Just devastating. I already had tickets to see Lazarus this Saturday...I will also be dropping by his home to see if the tribute is still there.

I'm seeing Lazarus tonight and just drove by the theatre, looks like people left flowers outside of it.
