Oh, boy... This could go either way.
I say... good for her! We'll see how long she can keep it going=-)
Judging by the how others in my South Florida office feel about her on DANCING WITH THE STARS (office staff of 20; 15 of them watch DANCING WITH THE STARS -- every single one of them can't stand her over-the-top bubbly personality and 'frozen teeth' smile), I see this talk-show running even less than Megan Mullally's. That's IF it gets sold (tons of talk-shows are tested and never see the light-of-day).
Sorry, Marissa -- that personality is definitely an acquired taste and not a mainstream one. Ricki Lake had 'it' -- you don't.
I'm still voting for you on DANCING WITH THE STARS, so no hard feelings.

It is far off in the distance, but I think I can see patrts of the train wreck now.

Brody--between this and the Christine Baranski post, you are today's VIP.
I agree with the train wreck comments...she's too "on" all the time for this to work. There's enthusiasm...and then there's Marissa.
GO BACK TO BROADWAY!!!
You too, Jesse Tyler Furgeson! Why is this the new thing? Get your big break creating a role on Bway then go straight to tv? So far Sara Ramirez is the only one to make something out of it; I'm not counting Josh Gad w/ Back to You, it still hasn't been picked up for a second season and the ratings are so-so.
For a working actor, getting a full-time gig on TV is like winning the lottery. A job on a successful TV series/sitcom is a dream come true for them as it not only provides them with the financial security that many dream of, but affords them the luxury to do theatre/Broadway during their hiatus and without the stress of 'gee, I hope this play doesn't close'.
To put it mildly -- T.R. Knight and Sara Ramirez each now earns per week (per episode) on GREY'S ANATOMY what would have taken them 2-3 years of hard work in a Broadway show. That's IF their Broadway gig ran long enough.
Marissa is now based in Los Angeles in order to find work out there. Its apparent that she doesn't want to continue working and slaving on a meager Broadway income. The intentions of her appearance on DANCING WITH THE STARS is to hopefully make an impression on the American television audience, thus create a fan base that she doesn't have. Unfortunately, her desperate attempts each week is faltering and actually turning-off potential fans. I've yet to meet someone who actually likes her (aside from the regular Broadway fans).
Again... I'm voting each week for Marissa. Just 'keeping it real', here. If you intend on being a working actor, you need to be perceptive to your limitations and make those limitations work for you. Being dillusional is an actor's worst enemy.
A successful talkshow host knows they have to give the spotlight to the guests. I don't think Marissa is capable of doing that.
Bebe Neuwirth, a true triple threat, said that TV/movie stars would get the roles that everyone knew she'd be perfect for (paraphrasing here, not her exact words) and so she went away, did TV, and came back to NY and was able to get those roles.
I mean just look at the SWEET CHARITY revival that went through three leading ladies before settling on a fourth TV/movie star (Marisa Tomei, Jane Krakowski--the only one of the bunch who would have been perfect for the role, and Jenna Elfman all were attached to workshops/out-of-town productions of the revival before Applegate came to save the day). Not one actual Broadway star, apart from Krakowski, was cast in the role at any point. The Weisslers preferred to go through a plethora of Hollywood actresses first. Speaking of Krakowski, she kept getting featured roles on Broadway until she went away to LA, did ALLY MCBEAL and a couple of movies, and was able to get cast as Mabel Normand in LA, Carla in NINE on Broadway, and Miss Adelaide in London.
Only a handful of Broadway performers are able to get leading roles without having TV fame: Donna Murphy, Michael Cerveris, Victoria Clark, Tonya Pinkins, Raul Esparza, Julie White, etc.
