De Jongh Gone -And His Little Play Too! (18 rated content)

Nicholas De Jongh, theatre critic of the London Evening Standard for almost 20 years, has decided to quit.
He has decided to pursue a career in writing following his success with his first full length play, 'Plaque Over England' currently doing great business at The Duchess. The play has just been taken up to be made into a major movie for release in 2010/11.
Prior to 18 years on the Evening Standard he was a critic for The Guardian and The Daily Telegraph.
Always a little contoversial in his approach to reviewing Londons theatre, it will be interesting to see what future 'creative writing' he puts in front of his successor.

I'm not so sure - over the years I have probably come to agree with more often than not. Not always though. I did sit next to him at a debate in Edinburgh once and he was actually quite a nice man to talk to.

i met him only once but found him a little predatory.

He obviously found you to be attractive prey.

I think the tired circle of London theatre critics needs shaking up a bit: a few new and fresh voices to reinvigorate theatrical criticism are needed.

Not his biggest fan... but i did use him in one of my essays for uni. Infact, horrible man... i e.mailed him asking him a question relating directly to my essay and he never e.mailed me back :p That's it... off the christmas card list!

Mr De Jongh's play, 'A Plague Over England' has just posted early closing. It's now closing on May 2nd, two weeks ahead of its original of May 16th.
It was only 3 weeks ago that the producers were looking for a transfer theatre.

I wonder if this will effect his future writing output?

Just 4 weeks to see the wonderful Celia Imrie giving the West End her Dame Sybil Thorndike.
Not to mention the two guys displayed above- and yes, the jeans come off!

re: De Jongh Gone

It's a great look back at the London of the 50s and a brilliant insight into the theatre of the time too.

I really fancy this, but probably not gonna be able to do an overnighter down in london before it closes. Anybody who's seen it reckon its worth making the round trip from manchester, in a day, to watch?

Saw Mr De Jongh in Joe Allen's tonight - he must be losing his touch, he was with a middle-aged, bald bloke.
