I'm just trying to pick one show to see in Southern California in November. Both shows look good but it's been 10 years since I saw Waitress the movie and I have listened to three songs from DEH so far. Which one of the two does anyone think I should see most
You woul have a better shot at getting tickets for Waitress. Segerstorm will probally do what they did for Hamilton for DEH since its a popular show. But my votes, Waitress.

Well DEH tickets for Costa Mesa are starting at $35.00 according to it's website. What I am asking is if either show is worth the hype it's been receiving on Broadway
IMO, waitress is the better show. Im buying tickets for the Waitress stop.

The "best musical" of 2017 is far and above better than a musical with barely any award recognition. DEH all the way. You can see Waitress in a few years during its low-budget, non-equity touring leg.
DEH is more relevant and timely right now and the music is much better.
They're two very different shows. I personally enjoyed Waitress much, much more, but I recommend listening to both to see which you prefer.
I liked Waitress, but to me it's not even close. DEH is vastly superior in every way. If you can get tickets to see it on tour, grab them and consider yourself extremely lucky. And don't listen to the small minority of haters here. Just look at the objective evidence (well, semi-objective) Best Musical, Best Book, Best Score, has sold out virtually every seat since it's opened at very high ticket prices. And that last fact is based on word of mouth, so that should tell you a lot.

I usually don't listen to a whole cast album unless I am set in stone to see a show

Hate to double post but I'll see both if i have to
I agree. I love both shows. See both if you can. If you can only see one though, I’d see DEH.

So both are great. Dear Evan Hansen is perfect in every way - music, production, acting..just everything. Waitress is really fun and just a feel good show with great music and comedy. Totally different shows and both worth seeing, but I definitely think everyone everywhere should see dear evan Hansen if they could. If covers such a broad array of topics that are most likely relatable to a lot of people and the acting is absurdlyyyyy amazing. After seeing it twice, I STILL want to see it again, as opposed to waitress which was great and all and made me feel happy after but I don’t feel the need to see more than once or twice. But whichever you see, depending on your style and preference, will be worth it. If it’s posible to get $35 tickets for Dear Evan Hansen than I think it’s not even a question, definitely see that. Waitress you’ll always be able to score affordable tickets but that’s not the case for Dear Evan Hansen
My opinion - I think Waitress is a better show that will translate better away from the original Broadway cast. It's a more well-rounded musical theatre story and experience. I liked DEH and about half of the songs, but think the material was elevated by a few standout performances from original cast members that contributed to the success and hype on Broadway.
Saw each show a few times, and I enjoy Waitress more. I think younger audience members prefer DEH since it is very pf the moment with the social media/disconnectedness/etc themes, and slightly older crowds get more out of Waitress. I think Waitress has the stronger book, and better songs, on the whole.

Waitress by far, DEH might have won best musical but Waitress is so good! Desi Oakley is outstanding and Sara's score is phenomenal!!! See waitress you won't regret it!
