I wonder why it was re-reviewed? Part of me thinks that the producers requested this after the early closer of the Toronto production, in an attempt to maintain buzz for London. Its not like the sales on the Broadway production have slowed down dramatically, nor is the the new casting dramatic enough to warrant to new review like Hello Dolly with Bernadette Peters, Next to Normal with Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley, A Litte Night Music with Peters and Stritch, or My Fair Lady with Laura Benanti. Add to that the current cast has been with the show for nearly 5 months now.

The NYT does that often after highly acclaimed shows change leads, I guess to see if the show’s still “got it” (and they usually wait a couple months to give them time to settle in, as they did in this case). They did this for Next to Normal when Marin Mazzie took over, Hamilton when Javier took over, I think My Fair Lady with Laura, etc. I don’t think it’s related to Toronto closing.

The show was re-reviewed with Trensch as well (I think they skipped Galvin).

The "Why" is probably twofold:

1. Not much opening on Broadway in the pre-Tonys lull.

2. As stated in the review, the teenage characters are not being played by actual teenagers.

Actually the review clearly states that 2 of the 5 teenage characters (Evan and Zoe) are now being played by actual teenagers -- which is 2 more than were in the original cast.

Typo correction: I think you meant "are NOW being played...".

I really like this review a lot (as an affirmed fan of the show). 

One thing that will be interesting to watch for in the future is whether they'll be able to replace Andrew Barth Feldman as Evan with another teenager.

It's funny how the haters ALWAYS seem to fall back on the old "oh if you liked it you must be involved in the show" retort.  So desperate, Miss Amy.

P.S.  I'm the one who posted the re-review, so I guess I must be the investor too, right?  I only WISH I was an investor.  It'd be like winning the lottery!

I’m betting the producers requested the Times come again, knowing they’d write a very positive review, and look at the sudden surge in word of mouth for DEH again? Very smart on their part. Also annoying, I’m so sick of this show lmao

They did this with Spring Awakening too, with Hunter Parrish and Alexandra Socha. Hard to believe that was 11 (!) years ago.

I'm probably too naive, but The Times doesn't re-review shows often and usually for reasons that seem reasonable. Hey, there's a new My Fair Lady cast. How are they doing? A re-review of The Ferryman also seems logical, given its new cast. 

I'm sure producers of longer-running shows would love to get re-reviews, and the rave for The Ferryman can only help its Tony chances and flagging box office.  (I just got back from a New York City trip, and it's the one show I most regret not seeing.) But does anyone really think The Times re-reviews shows and gives raves just to curry favor? As I said, I may be much too naive.
