Again Javero, I haven't once slighted Cox. I was just stating the obvious. Yes, she's had some hits but not on the mainstream, all important, Billboard Top 100 pop charts. She's a club diva. Ergo, her number ones have been club hits. She's an outstanding singer. However, she did not become the mainstream, household name, successor to Whitney Houston, that Clive so desperately wanted her to be. So, now she's yet another Rnb gal, who has entered the Palace theater. My problem is with the powers that be in Aida/Telsey casting etc..., so calm down. Thank you Etoile. And I have no number 1's Javero, I don't make music.

Well then call me a capitalist pig, because as a former business owner I have to make the case for doing what it takes to pack the Palace. I'm also not new to the theatre world, just Bway. It just seems a bit unfair to blame all the woes that some struggling actors have on "star" casting. A larger part of Bway's continuing troubles can be attributed to the outrageous demands on both sides in the incessant equity/non-equity battle, IMHO. The producer(s) assumes a substantial risk in staging a production and accordingly deserves a "fee" for services. I'm sure you are well aware that taking a show to BWay is very risky proposition. But I digress...

Aida has gone through alot of Aida's in the past few months. Guess they are really into stunt casting.

Al Dente-

It's been stated several times that Deborah Cox is NOT a 'Pop-Star' - but an R&B star, therefore it is highly unlikely that you'll find her on the POP charts. Billboard also has an R&B chart...which Deborah has topped on more than one occassion. In fact, her double platinum single "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here," (taken from her PLATINUM album 'One Wish')topped the billboard R&B Charts for 14 consecutive weeks, making it the longest-running #1 song in R&B chart history...the remix single became a worldwide club-hit (DOB,2004). Please note, that a second single ("We Can't Be Friends") from the same PLATINUM album also went straight to #1!

Deborah is DEFINITELY a household name, however one must understand that 'household name' is clearly a relative phrase...dependent upon your family's musical interest. My guess is that in approximately 90% of African-American households, the name Deborah Cox is indeed well known!

Now, if you will, please explain how and when Deborah has had to 'struggle' with her career?

By the way, I saw, heard & HUGGED Deborah this afternoon. To quote another poster on this thread: "SHE WAS INCREDIBLE...THE BEST SINGER SINCE HEATHER...!"

It's obvious how much haterade some folks in this thread are drinking. SMH. Deborah is doing a great job but jealous haters can't give credit where credit is due. If Deb was struggling in her career, she never would have gotten the gig. Obviously, she is doing something right.

Again, reading "comprehension" comes in to question quite FLAGRANTLY in this thread.

I have YET to slight Cox. I've pointed out facts and expressed my disdain for sudden posters, a.k.a. SHILLS and called in to question (once again) the "professionalism" of casting companies and the Aida powers that be. Do i have to repeat this yet again, down the thread? And alas, Deborah Coxs' *fame* is VERY limited and yes, she has "struggled".

After being with Clive Davis (on one imprint or another) for what is now, close to 13 years, she should be more than "just an Rnb charter". There's no hateration going on here. I like Cox, so again, CALM DOWN.

If I didn't know better, Id say this sounds like it came from a press release:

"Billboard also has an R&B chart...which Deborah has topped on more than one occassion. My Deborah Cox fact DID indeed come from a press release - which is why i included an APA format reference: (DOB, 2004) - Disney On Broadway, 2004. No plagiarism here! re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Deborah Cox as Aida

Al Dente, your posts are full of contradictions. You say that you "have yet to slight" Deborah, yet you continue to ignore all of her accomplishments in your posts and continue to state (without evidence) that she has struggled and that her success is "VERY limited". Before commenting on anyone else's comprehension skills, I suggest you grab a dictionary and look up the word 'slight'. From my understanding, all you've been doing on this thread is 'slighting' Deborah.

To all of the TRUE Deborah Cox fans - please go check her out. You Will Not Regret It!

I saw Deb a few nights ago in AIDA. Best AIDA to ever gace that stage. HANDS DOWN. SHE WAS SO GREAT! I had no idea she would be so good. I was surprised and if you are thinking of checking it out go see it for your self. She is the bomb.

Some of the ignorant people in this post are downing Deborah.

And again, I don't see how anyone who is cast in the lead role of a Broadway production could be struggling in their career.

SMH.

Deborah Cox rocks!

I believe that is the reason why Toni Braxton took the job. At least thats what it looked and sounded like when I saw the VH1 special. She needed the money.

Deborah spelled out her aims in taking the part in an article recently, which were all artistic by the way. In the article, she even showed deference to the greats that came before her including Judy Garland, being the class act that she is. It was also quite obvious that she immersed herself in the libretto beforehand. I was rather moved when she revealed that she summons the emotions she gathered during her missionary work in war-ravaged/disease-ridden nations abroad to prepare her for the more emotionally taxing numbers in Aida. If interested, the article is available at http://dancemusic.about.com/cs/interviews/a/DeborahCoxInt.htm

BTW I was countering the comment made that someone who stars in a Broadway show could never take the job because of their faltering career. It may not be true for Deborah, but it certainly can be true for other people. I was not downin' on Deborah Cox. I am glad they've gotten someone who is good at the acting aspect of the show in there.
