Coming to New York for the weekend. Looking to fill one of my spots with a play and trying to decide between Angels in America, A Brief Encounter, or Time Stands Still. if there is any other recommendation you have, please let me know that as well. Thanks!
I have heard wonderful things about all of them! I have only seen Brief Encounter and can say that it is breathtaking and I highly recommend it. I am eager to see Angels in America and Time Stands Still too. You can catch Angels up until February and Time Stands Still at least until January. If you'll make it back again sometime during the holidays, go for Brief Encounter this time. If you have an evening slot open for a show, Brief Encounter feels like an old-fashioned night out at the theatre and I preferred seeing it in the evening to at a matinee. Enjoy, whatever your choice is!

I would recommend "Brief Encounter" as well. Very imaginative. Tickets also seem to be readily available. I didn't care for "Time Stands Still" at all, though many people have written positively about it. "Angels in America" seems to be a hard ticket.
I would also recommend "The Pitmen Painters."
I would add La Bete to that list.
I liked "Pitmen Painters" but if you want something really dynamic, go for "Brief Encounter" instead. Haven't seen "La Bete" yet, but I can't wait to see it.
I was really touched by both "Driving Miss Daisy" and "A Life in the Theatre" which I saw this weekend. Judging by the mixed reviews, it seems the latter might not be for everyone, but I really enjoyed both.
I'm really looking forward to DRIVING MISS DAISY but I would highly recommend TIME STANDS STILL. Its a terrific piece of theater with an excellent cast and its entertaining, smart, witty and heartbreaking all at the same time.
I saw LA BETE and would recommend - and Mark Rylance's performance is electryfying -- one of the best performances I have ever seen on stage. ever.
Have heard and read great reviews of BRIEF ENCOUNTER as well...

I, too, would recommend La Bete. It was a highly enjoyable time at the theatre for me, and as Vernon said, Mark Rylance is just incredible.
I definitely recommend 'Time Stands Still'. I was fortunate enough to see the show in March during its initial run, and I absolutely loved it. I'm looking forward to catching it again in December.
