So I got to see Debbie Gravitt'es show, Big Band Broadway last night. Apparantly it's going on tour, if it is, SEE IT! It's very, very good! She sang Defying Gravity and she did it very, very much in a different way then what we're used to. For those of you who know when things happen like only Elphaba is singing Defying Gravity for like a talk show or something, how the words are a bit different to better fit the situation? Well that's how Debbie sang it and she definately did it more jazzy, and the ending belt was pretty, big band belt, not a scream kind of belt. It was different, but it was perfect! She was of course, as usual, stunning and so sweet and funny!
Glad to hear it, Sally. One of my favorite live performers!
I adore Debbie Gravitte. I recently sent her an email, and she wrote me a sweet response. Such a classy performer. I look forward to her new CD that has her version of Defying Gravity on it.
I listen to her MGM album all the time.
I think Debbie is one of the most alluring people on stage. She sings with brass and class. She's as charming and sultry as they come, as well as a really "earthy" lady. I've walked a mile or more to see her.
She reminds me of Rebecca Spencer, another classy met-soprano, that has still got it together well beyond 30 (Boy!they'll love me for that). http://www.rebeccaspencer.com

oh! she's on the Lucky Stiff recording. LOVE HER!
I saw her and Jodi Benson, and another lady (3 Broadway Divas--I was there for JODI!!) in Chicago..and thought she was really great.
I didn't like her Defing Gravity, it was too proper (I'm all for soprano belt..but it didn't even sound like a sop belt, it was pure soprano) and I heard her switches from chest to soprano really really too much for my liking. I loved loved loved her on everything else though!!
Did anyone know she was one of the voices for Little Mermaid? I didn't until she did her line last night. It was cute, I think she was one of the sister's...

Love Debbie Gravitte's version. Completely different, but I adore it.
Oh! Christiane Noll! Love of my life!
Yeah, Debbie says "Oh, She's got it bad!"
when they are talking about Ariel being in love!
out of the 1000 people that were at that outdoor concert I was the only one freaking out about how awesome that was...LOL
