Posted: 9/20/05 at 1:11amNo, they were trying out the new effect and she got hurt in Toronto while trying it. They haven't done the effect since. Noone has seen it.

It would have been a cool effect, yes.
It would have been fun to watch, yes.
But it would have taken away from the end of Defying Gravity - which is, at first, a nice effect, very chilling. But now it's so cheesy and, for such a big show, it is not very climatic.
Plus, with the current Elphaba, there's no power there.
Anyway, who cares? I feel bad Stephanie didn't get it...yes. But, I don't care because, that's the business. Until you sign the contract nothing's definite. And after you sign it, nothing is definite.
Idina was fortunate to get Rent. Well, Rent has helped a lot of actors make it on Broadway. Idina was lucky to get such an early start on her career.
That's one way to become a "star." Another is, as Julia has been doing, working on T.V./Film and off-Broadway.
But, anyway, I feel for Stephanie - but can't say I blame the producers or anyone.
Not to mention, Ana, Idina, Saycon, all better than Stephanie, IMO.

Posted: 9/20/05 at 3:57pmthat is highly amusing that they got it SO wrong! LOL! I mean seriously! If you're going to write an article you better make sure you've got your facts right!

Posted: 9/20/05 at 5:28pmso i'm confused. i went back and looked at the original story and it says it was a back injury ... and it seems the consensus on this board now is that steph WAS injured while on a broom trying out a special effect that they then scrapped because she got hurt. so what was the part of the story that was wrong again?

Posted: 9/20/05 at 5:31pmthe article had said it was her leg that was injured. They changed part of it to say back but I think the second half of the article still says something like "she limped through..." and mentions leg once more.

Posted: 9/20/05 at 9:29pmAw,thanks for the link Popular! I had read it was a platform before but for some reason when you see Elphaba on stage you don't realize it is a platform lifting her. I thought the cape Glinda puts around her was some sort of harness. Thanks,Popular!
