I wasn't hit really strong either way by Derrick, but I can tell you that when I saw him perform Dancing Through Life was the first time I realized that the choreography was to make everyone look like a scarecrow. Everyone else I've seen has just kind of breezed through it, and I liked that I finally made the connection (I knew about the Scarecrow connection before I saw the show, so I was looking for similarities and I didn't pick that one up for a few viewings.)
I didn't care for him at all. His enunciation really took me out of the show. He just seemed to punch each word in a way that drove me nuts. His Fiyero was FAR gayer than any other.
Megan Hilty did call him Derrick instead of Fiyero as he is running off during Thank Goodness the night I saw it. That was fun.
Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!
I dont mean to bash, but i am glad he is leaving Broadway soon, i should be seeing the show again in september, and saw him on tour and thought he was awfull

All right, boys and girls.....I see now that this topic was covered ad nauseam back in January of 2006......however, I did not know that. That's why I started the thread.
And please don't throw virtual bricks at me, I did a "Search" before I started the thread and did not find any previous posts about Derrick Williams. As Fiyero. In "Wicked." The musical. (I guess the featured posts did not extend back to the first of this year.)
So, very very sorry. And I can see now why some people thought it was an asinine thread. But I still love you, B12B. Mwuhhhh.
Vocally, I found him to be very weak. Especially when he was singing opposite Staphanie Block who has such a powerhouse voice. He couldn't match her at all. His voice just has no power behind it and a wierd quality to it that I wasn't a fan of.
I actually liked him as Fiyero. I also had nothing to compare him to.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

I can't believe you guys thought Derrick was gay!!! I saw him front row two times and his "as long as your mine" with Stephanie was the hottest thing EVER. It was just as hot with Jenna...me and my friend were like, fanning ourselves...lol
I love Derrick. So glad he's coming back to Chicago!
and all that I could do because of you was talk of love...
Ya I think derrick is just readily available becuase hes certainly not good. Saw him twice on tour...and i dont know if hes still their when bway gets kendra kasselbaum or however you spell her but that duo just makes you route for someone to drop a house on them. His voice sounds like kermit the frog....and she is like watching jack mcfarland play sally struthers playing glinda....quite a treat can't wait for the kendra reviews once she hits town. Hopefully between toronto and broadway she has read the script and gotten a clue as to whats goin on...
Derrick will be leaving January 7th. He won't be there with Kendra.
I saw him several times and thought he was bleh. He sings okay and dances okay. But that was it...okay. Not great but should not be a target for relentless bashing either.
Derrick is among the three Fiyeros I've seen (Kris and Sebastian being the other two) and I found him to be the most masculine guy I've seen in the role. I never once thought he was gay (as if that even matters). I enjoyed his performance and look forward to seeing him again when he joins the Chicago company.
