Probably been done before, but just wondering...
Who do you think is the most deserving Tony Award winner?
My vote (at least amongst recent winners) would be Hugh Jackman. He carried that show, which wasn't too good. Amazing that it could recoup... Any other thoughts?
oh my

I could only judge from what I know, and I've only been Broadway obsessed for about a year lol. So, outside of my time, I have to go with what I've heard...

Im not really sure who deserves a Tony Award this year. The only one I can think of would be Richard Dreyfuss for Sly Fox. Had A Christmas Carol the Musical(TV Version) been on broadway I believe it would sweep the tonys. Jason Alexander would definately win one for his performance as Jacob Marley.
Is this a joke???

1) Dreyfuss was last season
2) He didn't even get nominated (it was a strong season for lead actors in a play -- Jefferson Mays was a MOST deserving winner)
I absolutely agree with Jefferson Mays. Brilliant performance.
I was referring to the "Nomination" of Jason Alexander in Christmas Carol...oh my...
Last year, I think Jefferson probably was most deserving of all the awards. I'm going to see him in the show in Chicago next month.
One performance that really stands out for me was Joanna Gleason in Into the Woods. I just thought she was perfection. Also:
Janet McTeer - A Doll's House
Owen Teale - A Doll's House
Jane Adams - An Inspector Calls
Zoe Caldwell - Master Class
Anne Duquesnay - Noise/Funk
Wilson Jermaine Heredia - Rent
Wilson Jermaine Heredia for RENT
Kristin Chenoweth for You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown
Tovah Feldshuh - GOLDA'S BALCONY.
Oh wait - damn.

I nominate Michael Arden from BARE. I told him that at this years Tony's too. I still can believe that we can't get BARE rolling yet, however Brooklyn exists. What kind of world is this????

I would agree with Jason Alexander's performance in A Christmas Carol. Too bad he can't be nominated for a tony. Lets pray for an emmy though. I believe Alan Cumming deserved the Tony for Cabaret. Len Cariou and Angela Lansbury for Sweeney Todd. Bea Arthur for Mame lets not forget

I think Sutton Foster truely deserved the Tony for Millie. She proved that she is a knock out performer and a true triple threat.
Was Sly Fox that bad that it didn't deserve any kind of recognition at the Tony Awards?
I mean--not a single one of them was nominated....weird.

Deserving Tony Winner: Debra Monk in Redwood Curtain, a 5 week success d'estime in which she absolutely shone
Sly Fox was a case of sustained mediority. Not bad per se, but a far cry from being any good. Dreyfuss had no energy and zero sex appeal.
Oh yes - Debra Monk RULES. Love huh!!
Most deserving of a Tony is pretty damn hard to figure out. There have been so many winners that it's really tough to even think about. Here are my ideas...
MUSICAL ACTRESS
Carol Channing in Hello, Dolly! - There's a reason she beat out Barbara Streisand
Angela Lansbury in Mame
Jennifer Holliday in Dreamgirls - When people are afraid to revive a show because everyone can still hear the actress' voice in their head, you've done a damn good job
MUSICAL ACTOR
Joel Gray in Cabaret
Zero Mostel in Fiddler on the Roof
Cid Caesar in Little Me
Len Cariu in Sweeney Todd
Nathan Lane in The Producers - while this is a very recent one, there's really been no replacement for him in the role, and it was one of the most lauded performances I can remember
There's plenty more, but I can't think right now. I would weigh in on straight plays, but I just don't know those well enough to make a strong opinion.

Idina Menzel did not deserve a Tony Award in any way, shape, or form. She doesn't sing or belt. she yells. "Hi Idina, I'd like to introduce you to my friends Pitch and Key. I understand that you have never met them." She brought absolutely NO nuance to her performance. she had TWO planes of emotion and that was all and EVERY line in the second act was read the exact same way

With all due respect, Sid Caesar did not win for his seven role tour de force in Little Me. He lost to Zero Mostel in Forum.
The parallels of these two shows are interesting at least to me. Neither one succeeds when it is acted. They require performers to put them across. Both shows seem to me to be related burlesque sketches strung into a flimsy and funny plot. They're both a series of 'turns'. The leads have more schtick to do and they require more energy, but please don't act them.
Greenifyed, who's that in your picture? That's uh...a nice one.
On topic: I always found it sad that LA CAGE beat out SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE for best musical. But, it's all opinion, so...
i think kristin and roger definately deserved it for YAGMCB so i was happy with that
Sutton def.
i dont think idina should have won... all of the other nominees were better
