This is good early O'Neill. What that means is that it does not come close to the later O'Neill like Long Day's Journey or Moon/Misbegotten, but is still pretty good on its own terms.
A friend said to me that he felt something was missing, and I pondered and replied that what was missing was O'Neill himself, his family or some stand-in for one of them.
This is a very-good-not-great play with a genuine conflict. the production is quite good.
