I was just watching The "Broadway Beat" and I cant seem why it got such bland reviews. Yes there is almost an ON AND ON AND ON talking bit here and there but the music is so addicting. I think there could have been more songs too but the story and the acting is almost ,dare I say, perfect. I hope Curtains at least becomes nominated for a few Tony's....especially Best Musical...That is my opinion what are yours?

It will get nominated. Don't you worry. But I don't believe it will win "Best Musical".
It got mediocre reviews, which is better than certain other shows have had. Plus it's getting pretty darn good reactions from audiences. Nomination? Definitely. A win? Well... let's be honest, I think it *could* win Best Musical. As an outside possibility. I don't think it *is* the best musical, but then, that didn't exactly stop Spamalot, did it? I doubt it will take Best Musical, but I'm not exactly going to bleed out of my rectum in shock if it does.
I think the only Tony it has any shot at winning is Best Leading Actor.
Bad reviews doesn't mean it won't be nominated/win.
Good reviews doesn't mean it will be nominated/win.
The five ways to predict if a show will win:
Politics. Politics. Politics. Art. Politics.
Curtains is a definitive lock for Best Musical nomination.

I had a dream last night Spring Awakening won Best Musical.
It will definitely be nominated, and I think it will win if Legally Blonde isn't nominated. It will sell well on the road.
Debra Monk gives the BEST performance on Broadway right now. Anyone who disagrees with me is just stupid.

capnhook: i think you over-estimate the role art plays in the tony decision process ...

I doubt that Legally Blonde will win...not this year
If Legally Blonde is nominated, it will win. It would make millions on the road. That's why it would win.

Curtains will make more on the road.
Edit: Legally Blonde does not need the Tony win to give it a finacial boost, the title of the show is enough to do that. It could use it but it would still make the same amount of money on the road. Just look at WICKED it IS making millions on the roads and it didn't win the TONY. The Tonys haven't lost all integrity.

YES, PLEASE!
Yes, Wicked didn't win the Tony. Avenue Q did because it went on a huge campaign, and it pormised both a tour and a Las Vegas production. If they hadn't done this, I think Wicked would've won.
To say that Debra Monk is giving the best performance of Broadway is a joke. I certainly prefer Ebersole, Wilson, and many other actors and actresses that I won't list. Her material is not even good. The song "It's a business" repeats that quote about a 20 times and that's the chorus for that song. I dare to say its Kander & Ebb's worst.

I don't think art is considered anymore.
It's more like politics, politics, politics, politics, and politics.

You realize that only about 20-30% of the voters are the "tour voters" so they can't make a show win.
muscle, BigFatBlonde is a joke. Don't take it seriously.
The last musical by Kander and Ebb nostalgia. I think some of us may underestimate it.
Except those in the biz know it's not the "last" K&E musical. And, like I've said before, it's not like Ebb died recently - this isn't a Jonathan Larsen situation. It's been a few years now.
I don't anticipate CURTAINS doing as well as some predict on the road. Yes, the producers keep shoving "A Great Big New Musical Comedy" into the faces of anyone who comes near it, but I see two other musicals with much more touring potential. CURTAINS would last a nice year on the road. LEGALLY BLONDE would last longer. And if LEGALLY BLONDE is not nominated, SPRING AWAKENING's cast recording has been near the top of the Cast Album Billboard Chart since it was released. Tons of teens out there are listening to this music and will want to see the show over and over on the road, similar to the way RENT is *still* popular on the road 10 years into its run. I don't see CURTAINS' cast recording having even close to the same popularity once its released. Like I said, I think this show would last one nice year on the road, then be put to rest. Hyde Pierce will have left the Broadway production by this point, the numbers will drop, the show will close, and it will be history.
I think it will be nominated for best musical but Grey Gardens or Spring Awakening will most likely win.
The Curtains reviews were equal to or better than the original reviews for Chicago. However you examine the critical response, all but the most negative couple of reviews had good things to say about multiple facets of the production, and the favorable reviews were enthusiastic and far from the minority.
We may be expecting smash or pan collections of reviews, but Curatins received an assortment of critiques that many highly successful shows have garnered.
Love Debra Monk, but she's not even the best thing on the Hirschfeld stage. Yeah, I know BigFatBlonde's a joke, still wanted to put that out there. ^_^
I don't know how long 'Curtains' could last on the road, but as I was watching it, I remember thinking "holy crap, this would be AWESOME to do!". Give it some years, unleash the amateur rights, and watch theatre nerds in dramatic societies across the nations pounce.
