I found it sort of disappointing! When extracting one song from a show, the "average non-theatre-goer" would not have found that performance to be as uplifting as WICKED fans would.

I, personally, was hanging on ever word they sang...but many people most likely had no concept of the show from that particular extraction.

I stayed up until 3 waiting for Chitty, and it was worth it because Raul sounded BEAUTIFUL.

At 5 am I woke up to the sounds of Kelli O'Hara singing "The Light in the Piazza" on the telethon. I had no idea she was even going to be on, so I was very very happy. Anyone else see?

And then I just woke up again to "For Good". I think I like Kate Reinders, and Ana Gasteyer sounded a little off, but I blame that on the morning definitely, because her Defying Gravity is probably my favorite.

I have seen "live" excerpts from Wicked on Letterman, Leno and the Tony Awards, and they were all pretty bad, IMHO. This is the first time I've seen anything so simple (other times: Defying Gravity and One Short Day). THIS WAS BY FAR THE BEST tv broadcast. I thought both Ana and Kate were terrific. The simplicity worked well for them, the characters and the music. It shows you how well that song works as a "stand alone" piece.

A bonus was that the intro to the song was handled so pathetically by the telethon announcer that it was actually funny. People who just read from the teleprompter and don't THINK at the same time should be sent back to communications school or wherever. She was like Amber in Hairspray with a Latin accent.

Wow, what an AWFUL day.

Woke up to watch it during the 9 o'clock hour...not on, assumed it won't be on...it was.

re: Did ANYONE SEE For Good on Telethon?!

I played back what was recorded on my DVD recorder, and the sound was so low I thought something went wrong with the recorder. Good to know it didn't, and that it was the program itself.

WGN isn't some backwater station. Really surprised they did such a poor job with the sound.

It was also kinda sad the hosts in Chicago couldn't even
read the teleprompter introductions properly.

aaarrrggghhh... I stayed up so late to watch Chitty that I slept through Kelly O'Hara singing Piazza.... and my mom had something else on the tv (and I of course was half asleep at the time) so I also missed Wicked... oh well, at least I saw 2 of the performances this year. I usually give up watching after a while and miss all of the bway shows.

People read from teleprompters on the telethon? You're kidding!

tmz814..and anyone else who missed it:

Someone posted a message saying that some of the performances were taped and replayed later on during the telethon. Keep your eyes open (but your remote on MUTE...until something Broadway-related is on, of course!)

hahaha.... I have to keep it on mute or I will lose my sanity after watching it for way too many hours trying to see some of the bway performances. That's how I keep missing it. I change the channel because I can't take it anymore and then I miss something I wanted to see. Oh well, at least I saw Raul. That made it worth it to stay up till 3am.

Does anyone have any idea what other shows are going to be on?

Does that mean you were distracted by the unevenness of Ana's makeup in that performance also?

Is Bart Conner Developmentally Disabled?

Perhaps. I guess is not easy to get green that early in the morning.

I just kept thinking of the Idina/JLT song on the View and Broadway on Broadway . . .

EDIT - I would give this a B. Did not seem to be much of a connection between the two. Just eh . . .

As always, I am left flaccid and unimpressed by this score.

WICKED may be Schwartz' most successful show ever, but it's also his least impressive work...and I'm a fan of his!

re: Did ANYONE SEE For Good on Telethon?!

I agree with Mister Russell on this one.

While Wicked has some very nice numbers, all in all it's just blah. That song doesn't do a lot for me and while I won't judge their overall performances from that small, out of element performance it did leave me a bit cold.

She looked "greener" than most Elphabas. Almost like it was the cheap-o green makeup you can buy at Halloween. Is she such a dark green on stage?

re: Did ANYONE SEE For Good on Telethon?!

Wow, gonna add my thoughts on Fiddler... HOLY HARVEY! So painful! What were they thinking? He has two notes, one low one high that he alternates between. I was thinking the whole time how angry I would be if I had paid for that show.

K... so my life sucks and I am at work. Anybody got anybody send me the clip of Ana and Kate? I LOVE them... especially Ana. Too bad to hear she wasn't in top form.. she normally is truly incredible.
