I've heard from some sources that her performance at the Tony rehearsal was better than what she did that evening. A terrible combination of illness, the drugs to battle that illness, and stage fright seemed to have gripped her by the time the telecast happened.

I saw Bernadette late in the run. She sang too slowly and cried too much.
The whole production was a debacle, especially compared to my memories of the original, which was the essence of perfection.

The direction was a mess, but by the second year, the rest of the cast got where they needed to be. CZJ was flawless, Peters was mesmerizing. They portrayed different sides of the character, both amazing. Ooze sexiness? Sure. But that's not really what this part is about.
