What was the theater that Glee used in the season finale to film Matthew Morrison's onstage solo performance? It looked like the interior of the Liberty. Also, from a few shots of the wings it looked like the marquees outside were from 42st. I thought the liberty was gutted recently. Anyone know?
I believe the marquee for "CrossRhodes" was the Belasco and the interior looked like the newly renovated Belasco as well.

My first throught was Apollo theatre but I have not been to Apollo for a long long time.
What's about theatre that was used for national and also its lobby? That doesn't look familiar to me at all. thank you.
The one they used for nationals was definitely not a Broadway house. It had a Mezz and a balcony (that was empty, but still made it into a few shots), and the walls looked more modern.
It was nice seeing the Gershwin empty. The stage looks so much smaller on tv.
"the closing song from one of the greatest musicals of all time."
Then why did they start playing Wicked? I was so confused.
Wouldn't the competition theater be in LA, with only exterior shots in NYC?

Unless I'm mistaken, the competition theatre is the Skirball Center at NYU. I've never been in it, so I can't say for sure, but the lobby did look like it.
The Broadway theatre, if it is an actual Broadway theatre, looked like either the Belasco or Lyceum to me. Granted, I've never seen either theatre from the stage.

I'm pretty sure SonofMammaMiaSam is right: why wouldn't they shoot all the non-descript interiors for the show in LA where the rest of the series is filmed?
My guess is Morrison's interior was shot at the Orpheum or one of the other classic theaters on Broadway in downtown LA. The nationals stage looks like one of the convention hall stages in LA too.
The one exception on the finale show seemed to be the hotel room, which I was pretty convinced really was the InterContinental.

The nationals performance was definitely filmed in LA, as Jonathan Groff was in the scene, and he said in an interview on this site a few days ago that he did not go to NYC with the rest of the cast.
The cast was only in NYC filming for two days -- one in the Times Square area and one day in Central Park. I know that the interior theater scenes were filmed in LA, just not sure which theaters they are.

It would not make sense financially to transport and rehearse so many choral performers and extras to NYC for the competition scenes.
Wicked's been in L.A.
They only needed to do exterior shots in NYC.

SonofMMSam- They spent a day (or at least part of a day) in Washington Square Park. Also, it was probably combined in the "Central Park day", but they must have spent some time in Lincoln Center.
charles- That actually was in the Intercontinental. It is the only hotel in NYC I've stayed in.

No, that was the Gershwin. A few articles about it said they were caught filming there.
Nomdeplume, The Wicked scene was definitely shot in New York. The huge side staircase right and left of the main set were drastically reduced for the touring companies and the LA sit-down company of Wicked left LA a year and a half ago.
it looked to me that the nationals theater may have been the same one from regionals, the set on the stage was the same.
I found where there were five permits issued for filming-- Central Park, Times Square, Lincoln Center, Tiffany's and Washington Square-- over four days. And, they did use the InterContinental and CaVa restaurant doubled as Sardi's. The April marquee was at the Belasco and Wicked number was filmed in the Gershwin.

Got it, cjg. I did not say the Wicked shot had been done in L.A., only that the show had been done there. That scene may have made financial sense for NYC but they could have recreated it. Updated On: 5/26/11 at 02:54 PM

So, Mr. Schu leaves his kids at the Intercontinental (44th and 8th Ave.), and takes a taxi to the Belasco (44th and 6th Ave.)?
